What are some common challenges faced by professionals providing remote gender-affirming care, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote gender-affirming care often navigate challenges such as building trust and rapport through virtual platforms, ensuring patient privacy, and coordinating comprehensive care across distances. Addressing these requires strong communication skills, familiarity with telehealth best practices, and close collaboration with local healthcare providers for lab work or in-person assessments. Regular training on cultural competency and telemedicine tools can also help overcome these hurdles and support positive patient outcomes.

What is the difference between Remote Gender Affirming vs Remote Mental Health Counselor?

Remote Mental Health Counselors provide broader mental health support for various issues, often with licensed credentials. Both roles utilize telehealth platforms but serve different client needs within the mental health industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Gender Affirming Care Provider, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Gender Affirming Care Provider, you typically need a background in healthcare (such as an MD, NP, or PA), expertise in transgender health, and relevant state licensure. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and LGBTQ+ health resources is essential. Strong communication, cultural sensitivity, and active listening skills help build trust and foster inclusivity with patients. These competencies are vital to delivering safe, affirming, and effective care to gender-diverse individuals in a virtual environment.

What are remote gender affirming services?

Remote gender affirming services are healthcare or support services provided virtually—such as by video calls, phone, or online platforms—to help transgender and non-binary individuals access gender-affirming care. This can include consultations for hormone therapy, mental health support, medical guidance, and assistance with legal documentation. Remote services increase accessibility, especially for those who may not have local providers experienced in gender-affirming care. They offer privacy, convenience, and often reduce barriers such as travel and stigma. These services are typically provided by licensed healthcare professionals and counselors.

Job description

Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts | RemoteJoin Phoenix Rising Centers

Phoenix Rising Centers (PRC) is a community-centered mental health practice rooted in affirming, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and relational care. We work primarily with LGBTQIA+, trans, neurodivergent, and historically marginalized communities and believe healing cannot be separated from the systems, identities, and lived experiences shaping people’s lives.

We’re building a practice for clinicians who are tired of trying to do everything alone. Many providers are exhausted from fighting insurance companies, chasing reimbursements, managing endless administrative work, and carrying the full weight of private practice independently.

At PRC, we handle the infrastructure so providers can focus more fully on care, community, and sustainable clinical work.

We’re currently seeking both:

  • Independently licensed clinicians interested in W2 opportunities

  • Provisionally licensed clinicians interested in 1099 opportunities

What We Provide
  • Billing, credentialing, and administrative support

  • Referral and marketing support

  • Flexible remote telehealth scheduling

  • Community-centered and affirming practice culture

  • Ongoing training and professional development

  • Collaborative support across providers and leadership

Our goal is to build long-term, sustainable community mental health infrastructure with clinicians who want to grow alongside us.

CompensationIndependently Licensed Clinicians (W2)
  • Flat-rate compensation model

  • Approximately $50-$60 per completed session

  • Existing active caseload preferred (minimum approximately 15 sessions weekly)

Provisionally Licensed Clinicians (1099)
  • Starting at approximately $40 flat rate per completed session

  • Compensation commensurate with experience, training, and specialties

We intentionally use flat-rate compensation models and prioritize strong clinician pay because we believe in reinvesting into providers and building sustainable, values-aligned care collectively.

Clinicians with advanced trainings, specialized certifications, or experience working with higher-acuity populations may qualify for increased compensation rates. This may include specialties or modalities such as:

  • EMDR

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Somatic or Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

  • Severe or complex trauma treatment

  • Dissociation

  • Neurodiversity-affirming care

  • Specialized LGBTQIA+ or gender-affirming clinical work

Ideal Candidates

We’d especially love to connect with clinicians who:

  • Approach therapy through an affirming and anti-oppressive lens

  • Value relational and trauma-informed care

  • Are passionate about serving LGBTQIA+, trans, neurodivergent, and multicultural communities

  • Want community and operational support rather than navigating private practice entirely alone

  • Maintain strong ethical, clinical, and documentation standards

Requirements
  • Licensed or provisionally licensed in Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts

  • Experience providing psychotherapy or counseling services

  • Ability to maintain timely documentation and administrative follow-through

  • Telehealth capability and comfort working remotely

Job Types:

  • W2 (Independently Licensed)

  • 1099 Contractor (Provisionally Licensed)
