Summary:

The role is well-suited for candidates currently supporting central sponsored programs, research finance, or grants management offices who are experienced in managing institution-wide research portfolios and partnering with investigators, departments, and compliance teams.

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Research Operations, this position oversees a broad range of responsibilities related to sponsored program financial reporting and activity management.

This role manages complex sponsored program financial activities, including high-level reporting, compliance monitoring, and process optimization. The position serves as a subject matter expert for Lawson and other financial systems, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in research finance workflows. The position focuses on internal financial operations and strategic improvements and requires attention to detail, willingness to learn Baystate Medical Center (BMC) financial systems such as Lawson and collaborate with internal departments to maintain compliance and operational efficiency.

Job Requirements:

Senior Research Financial Analyst is responsible for BMC and PVLSI, including preparation of year-end audit documentation.

Prepares and reviews complex financial reports, reconciliations, and analyses for sponsored programs. Ensures accuracy and compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements.

Maintains and enhances Lawson Grants Management attributes for accurate reporting. Troubleshoots system issues and recommends improvements.

Coordinates preparation of year-end audit documentation and compliance reviews. Monitors federal and non-federal regulations and applies updates to workflows.

Serves as a technical resource and mentor for Research Financial Analyst I and II positions without formal supervisory responsibility. Provides guidance on complex issues and best practices.

Identifies opportunities for efficiency and scalability in financial operations. Leads initiatives to streamline workflows and improve reporting accuracy.

Manage invoicing, cash draws, and accounts receivable (A/R) processes, ensuring timely billing and collection of payments.

Prepare, review, correct and submit journal entries

Ensure strict adherence to system and departmental compliance policies, as well as all applicable laws and regulations.

Provide mentorship, training, and performance management for assigned financial analysts.

Works closely with Accounting, SPA, and other internal departments to ensure timely processing of journal entries, budget adjustments, and activity closeouts.

Champion change management initiatives to improve consistency, effectiveness, and scalability of financial operations.

Perform other duties as assigned to support research financial operations

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required

Required Experience:

Minimum 5-7 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in sponsored programs or grants administration.

Strong knowledge of Lawson financial systems and Grants Management modules highly preferred.

Preferred Experience:

Prior experience with audit preparation and compliance reviews

Extensive experience in research finance, sponsored programs, or grant administration

Skills/Competencies:

  • Advanced proficiency in Lawson, Excel, and other financial reporting tools.
