Job description

FlatterySalomon LLC & U.S. Steuerberatung LLC are international teams of Certified Public Accountants, Steuerberaters, and Business Advisors based on both the east and west coasts of the United States. With over 35 years of collective public tax and accounting experience, we specialize in business practices unique to the US, Germany, Belgium, and other EU member states.

Our hands-on services span back-office support, bookkeeping, compilations, reviews, income tax compliance, and both domestic and international tax planning — for individuals, corporations, and partnerships. We work with a broad client base including high-net-worth individuals, real estate investors, service companies, retailers, film distributors, and private equity funds.

The Role

We're hiring a US Accountant to own the day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of European clients with US subsidiaries or operations. You'll be embedded in client workflows — managing books, reconciling accounts, supporting multi-state compliance, and serving as a reliable financial point of contact for founders and finance leads who are still learning the US landscape.

This is a hands-on bookkeeping and accounting role with real exposure to complex cross-border structures. You'll work closely with our advisory team and directly with clients.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain accurate books in QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software for multiple US entities (month-end close, bank reconciliations, AR/AP management)
  • Prepare and import journal entries, including intercompany transactions and currency adjustments
  • Support multi-state sales tax compliance — filing returns, reconciling collected vs. remitted tax, and flagging nexus exposure
  • Assist with US payroll administration (Gusto or similar), including onboarding, off-cycle runs, and benefits coordination
  • Reconcile e-commerce and payment platform payouts (Shopify, Stripe, Amazon, ...) against accounting records
  • Collaborate on financial reporting packages for European parent entities — in USD and EUR where required
  • Liaise directly with clients to gather documentation, resolve discrepancies, and communicate deadlines
  • Support year-end close and preparation of workpapers for tax filings.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of US accounting or bookkeeping experience, ideally in a multi-client or public accounting environment
  • Solid working knowledge of QuickBooks Online (or similar accounting software)
  • Familiarity with US GAAP, chart of accounts best practices, and accrual-basis accounting
  • Experience with or exposure to multi-state sales tax (Avalara, TaxJar, or manual filings)
  • Comfortable working with multi-currency transactions and intercompany reconciliations
  • Exposure to US payroll (Gusto, ADP, Rippling) is a strong plus
  • Experience working with or for European companies operating in the US is highly valued
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple client deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong written communication in English; German/Dutch/French or other European languages are a strong plus

Nice to Have

  • Background in e-commerce accounting (Shopify, A2X, Amazon Seller Central)
  • Familiarity with European accounting workflows

What We Offer

  • Work with an intellectually stimulating client base — European founders navigating a new market
  • Remote-first setup with flexibility
  • Exposure to cross-border tax and advisory work beyond pure bookkeeping
  • A small, senior team where your work has direct impact and visibility
  • Competitive compensation based on experience
