Remote Election Law information

What is remote election law?

Remote election law refers to the legal practice of advising, interpreting, or litigating issues related to elections, voting rights, and campaign regulations, all conducted remotely rather than in a traditional office or courtroom. Professionals in this field may work from home or other locations, using digital tools to research statutes, consult with clients, draft legal documents, and participate in virtual hearings or meetings. This approach enables legal experts to assist clients nationwide or internationally, ensuring compliance with evolving election rules and technologies. The rise of remote work has made this legal specialty more accessible and flexible for both lawyers and clients.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working remotely in election law, and how can they be managed?

Remote election law professionals often navigate challenges such as coordinating with clients and colleagues across different time zones, ensuring secure handling of sensitive information, and staying updated on rapidly changing regulations. To manage these challenges, it is important to establish clear communication channels, use secure digital tools for document sharing, and participate in regular virtual meetings. Additionally, staying engaged with professional networks and continuing legal education can help remote election law professionals remain current and connected within the field.

Remote Election Law focuses on legal research, policy development, and advising on election-related legal issues. In contrast, Remote Election Compliance Officers primarily monitor and ensure adherence to election laws and regulations. Both roles require legal knowledge but differ in daily tasks and focus areas within the election industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote election law, and why are they important?

To excel in remote election law, you need a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, bar admission, and specialized knowledge in election-related statutes and regulations. Familiarity with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis), document management systems, and secure communication platforms is essential. Strong analytical thinking, written communication, and attention to detail are crucial soft skills for interpreting laws and advising clients remotely. These qualifications ensure precise legal guidance, compliance with evolving regulations, and effective representation in a highly specialized and dynamic legal field.

Fellowship Experience Director (Remote)

Project 26 Pennsylvania

Philadelphia, PA โ€ข Remote

Job description

P26 is the home for Pennsylvania students who are ready to challenge the far-right's attack on our futures and build a Pennsylvania where Gen-Z can lead and thrive.

This Fall, Pennsylvania residents will be voting on whether to keep three of our state supreme court justices on the bench. The outcome of this election will impact the court's ability to stand up to bad actors and fight for our economic future for the next decade. In the past few years, this court has:

  • Guaranteed overtime pay for overtime work
  • Stood up to Amazon and Uber to ensure that all workers receive fair pay and benefits
  • Halted efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election
  • Upheld programs to pay recent graduates for early career internships

At an estimated 766,000 registered voters enrolled in colleges and universities across the state, Gen-Z students have the power to determine the outcomes of these elections--but only if we get organized now.

Building on work started during the 2023 State Supreme Court Election and in the 2024 Presidential election, we're building a scrappy and innovative team that will organize and inspire thousands of college students to vote in the upcoming November elections, including the PA Supreme Court Election.

What Will You Do?

We are looking for a Fellowship Experience Director to lead a student fellow program at campuses distributed across every region of Pennsylvania. We seek someone who is passionate about reaching young voters wherever they are, with a drive for training the next generation of campaign leaders. The role will start in mid-July and run through November 14. This position will be based in Pennsylvania and requires a significant amount of in-person work and travel throughout the state.

Responsibilities include:

Fellow Program Management (30%)

  • Work with campus organizers to oversee the planning, development, and execution of the fellowship program on each campus.
  • Supervise and support a team of paid fellows, in partnership with campus organizers.
  • Maintain a statewide fellowship schedule and confirmation system.

Training & Leadership Development (30%)

  • Design, develop and facilitate training to build fellows capacity with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.
  • Continually motivate and support fellow teams, ensuring their engagement and development throughout the election cycle.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities within the fellowship program on different campuses.

Data Management & Entry (20%)

  • Oversee timely and accurate data entry by fellows into platforms include VAN, BLOCKS, and Mobilize.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Innovation (20%)

  • Work closely with the Organizing Director and organizing staff to align goals, troubleshoot, and problem-solve.
  • Collaborate with communications and digital staff to elevate fellow stories and amplify impact.

Who Are You?

A successful candidate for this role will have:

  • Have at least two cycles of campaign experience, with management experience.
  • Strong commitment to progressive values and empowering young people through organizing and leadership development.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to foster a positive, solutions-oriented team culture.
  • Highly organized and a self-starter, with strong-time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Creative and adaptive excited to think outside the box and to ideate and innovate to find the most exciting and effective GOTV tactics.
  • Experience with VAN.
  • Willing and able to work long, irregular hoursincluding weekends and eveningsespecially during key mobilization windows (as outlined above).
  • Be located near or be willing to relocate to one of our focus campuses.

Position Details

  • Compensation & Hours: Compensation for this role is $6,000/month, and includes PTO, health benefits, and a technology stipend. This is a full-time role.
    • There may be points throughout the year where the Fellow Experience Director is asked to work additional hours and/or weekends (specifically around Welcome Weeks and GOTV).
  • Blackout Periods: Over the course of any given election cycle, our organization will go through several key mobilization periodsduring these dates, we will have a staff blackout on PTO. This means that barring parental, bereavement, or another protected leave class, staff will not be able to take PTO during these times.
    • 10 days before a General or Primary election
    • 10 days before a Voter Registration Deadline
    • The month of August
  • To Apply: Please submit this short application. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

We are an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, veteran status or any other protected category under local, state or federal law.
