Description
The Revenue Management Department at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a(Remote) Director of Revenue Management.
About the Opportunity
This position leads the Revenue Management unit within Enrollment Management. The Director provides strategic leadership and oversight for all student financial account operations, including billing, receivables, payment processing, collections, and reconciliation. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant administration of student accounts while supporting institutional financial stability and a positive student experience. This position is also responsible for all student-based revenue, including accounting, reporting, reconciling, and analyzing as it relates to federal, state and local agencies as well as internal departments.

What You'll Do
  • Under the administrative direction of the Executive Director of Revenue Strategy, Systems, and Analytics, serves as a key member of the Enrollment Management Leadership Team which continually analyzes and improves the student experience, strives to meet students' needs and achieves enrollment and retention goals while providing excellent customer service.
  • Directs and manages all student accounts functions, including tuition and fee assessment, billing, collections, cash management, and reconciliation. Coordinates and consults with University leaders to achieve desired financial objectives. Creates reports and forecasts, including statistical modeling, needed for University-wide decisions on cash flow. Monitors student accounts receivable and implements strategies to reduce outstanding balances.
  • Responsible for the accounting interface of student financial data from the AR subledger to the University accounting system. Coordinates the design of all coding programs that enter or extract accounting data from or to the student revenue system to facilitate processing. Ensures that all transactions are properly posted to the University's accounting system in accordance with policies and practices at WVU, WVURC, the State and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Responsible for review and resolution of all accounting issues related to the subledger's accounting. Prepares Student Accounts Receivables dashboard reporting for presentations to senior management. Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for Student Accounts Receivables. Oversees payment processing systems (online payments, funds handling, and refunds).
  • Manages a team of professional staff. Establishes short- and long-term goals; mentors and coaches; identifies areas of strength and improvement providing constructive feedback. Ensures staff are highly productive and working in the most efficient manner, and that quality is consistent with the goals and objectives of the division and the University. Fosters a culture of accountability, service, and continuous improvement. Collaborates with ITS to maintain system functionality, upgrades, and integrations. Ensures high-quality service for students and families regarding student experience.
  • Oversight of policies and procedures governing the receipt of payments applied to student accounts and that excess funds are refunded to students or parents in accordance with state, federal and institutional requirements. Responsible for all third-party contracts, institutional loans, sponsorships, etc. Likewise, manages all collection efforts on past due accounts ensuring due process prior to write off. Maintains internal controls and audit readiness. Responds to audits and implements corrective actions as needed.
  • Serves in a leadership role on various committees as an appointed designee for the Enrollment Management team. In this capacity, possesses the authority to make decisions on behalf of the Executive Director of Revenue Strategy, Systems, and Analytics when needed and appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the following:
    • Progressively responsible experience in a highly automated, fast paced, data driven, and stressful service work environment
    • Experience working in higher education, specifically in a student services related area with responsibility for positive outcomes
    • Experience with advanced financial systems software as well as a student information system, preferably Banner, along with Argos, Excel, TouchNet, Workday, etc.
    • Supervisory or management experience
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to develop solutions when there are no available resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data necessary for critical decisions and strategic direction.
  • Highly experienced as a project leader for complex, high exposure system implementations.
  • Ability to make sound, compliant decisions in the absence of detailed resources or instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial management information systems.
  • In depth knowledge of college and university accounting and auditing standards and methods.
  • In depth knowledge of fund accounting procedures and policies.
  • Demonstrates in depth knowledge of theory and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of applicable federal, governmental, and university financial standards, policies, and procedures. (e.g., GASB, GAAP, NACUBO, AICPA, COGR, Office of Management and Budget Circulars).
  • Thorough and comprehensive understanding of the accounting and financial structures of a large public higher education institution.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications software to quantify and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, impacts and /or projections.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and/or projections.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and foster cooperation among diverse groups.
  • Ability to manage, supervise and motivate professional staff, maintaining a climate of professionalism, competency, and ethical behavior.
  • Flexibility to adapt to constant change.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and personal initiative.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and a record of excellence in customer service.
