Job description

About KHM

Karsh Hagan Madden (KHM) is an independent marketing agency formed through the merger of Karsh Hagan and Madden Media.
5 decades of creative and strategic legacy. 1 unified shop.

We blend bold storytelling with precision media, PR, geospatial targeting, and observation-led strategy to help brands close the gap between how they are seen and how they are felt.

Madden built our reputation in destination marketing and tourism. KH have spent years building brands in healthcare, banking, higher education, and retail alongside it. Together, we believe the strongest brands build communities, and our goal is to differentiate them in a world where consumers want something that means something to them.

This role deepens that work.

The role

As Director of Business Development, you own the outbound growth strategy for KHM's non-tourism portfolio. You identify, nurture, and close enterprise-level marketing retainers and major campaign contracts.

You are a consultative partner. You diagnose complex business challenges for prospective clients and build the case for KHM as the answer. We have access to a proprietary media planning and buying engine, award-winning creative work, and our established vertical case studies are your competitive ammunition.

This role is open to fully remote candidates nationwide or hybrid-remote from our Denver, CO headquarters.

Key responsibilities
  • Drive net-new revenue. Actively prospect, qualify, and close high-value agency retainers and campaign opportunities across KHM's non-tourism verticals.
  • Facilitate the pitch process. Orchestrate internal pitch teams, working directly with Agency Leadership and the broader team to deliver winning client presentations.
  • Build solutions consultatively. Translate complex prospect challenges into customized agency scopes spanning creative, digital, PR, programmatic media, and advanced analytics.
  • Manage pipeline velocity. Maintain a clean, active sales pipeline. Navigate multi-stakeholder buying committees and drive contracts to close.
  • Represent KHM. Serve as a brand ambassador at key industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
What we are looking for
  • Agency-side track record. 5+ years of proactive business development or senior account leadership within a marketing, advertising, digital, or PR agency.
  • A proven hunter. Self-sourcing and securing $500k+ agency retainers through outbound strategy, with a track record to back it up.
  • Command the room. Exceptional ability to lead executive-level conversations and work with an agency team to co-author complex creative and media scopes with confidence.
  • Patient with long cycles. Real understanding of how to build trust, nurture leads, and move complex buying committees to close.
Preferred sector networks

We welcome elite agency generalists who know how to close. Our depth of experience in the sectors below makes them our preferred places to play and proven spaces for us to win. We don't expect you to have deep networks in all of these areas. However, candidates with a strong track record and active client-side connections in at least one or two of the following sectors will be heavily prioritized:

  1. Hospitality and gaming. KHM has a strong record working alongside gaming enterprises and hospitality brands. Warm networks in this space move fast. Several gaming certifications with state agencies.
  2. Banking and financial services. Our track record with financial brands gives us credibility here from day one. Candidates who can open doors with regional banks, credit unions, or fintech-adjacent brands bring immediate value.
  3. Healthcare and public health. Experience with health systems, healthcare foundations, or public awareness campaigns, including familiarity with grant-funded procurement cycles.
  4. Higher education. Familiarity with the procurement cycles of state and public universities and the marketing mandates driving enrollment, reputation, and giving.
  5. Consumer brands, CPG, and franchise retail. Warm connections to growth-focused CMOs and brand directors in fast-casual dining, beverage, outdoor apparel, or franchise retail.
What we offer
  • On-Target Earnings. $150,000 to $300,000+, dependent on experience (Director) and includes an aggressive, uncapped commission structure with accelerators for self-sourced outbound business and long-term contract lengths. Note: This range represents base + commission.
  • Day-1 enablement. Immediate access to custom vertical case studies and ABM marketing support to warm up your prospects from day one.
  • Full benefits. Health, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, generous PTO, and a collaborative, low-ego team culture that has your back.

If this role excites you but your sector experience does not map perfectly to the priorities above, we still want to hear from you. KHM believes diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences make us stronger.
