Job description

Optum Insight is improving the flow of health data and information to create a more connected system. We remove friction and drive alignment between care providers and payers, and ultimately consumers. Our deep expertise in the industry and innovative technology empower us to help organizations reduce costs while improving risk management, quality and revenue growth. Ready to help us deliver results that improve lives? Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together.

Optum Life Sciences is seeking a Strategy Analyst to support the Strategy & Enterprise Development organization as the business advances growth priorities across data assets, AI-enabled solutions, platform modernization, enterprise partnerships, and life sciences commercialization.

This role provides analytical and execution support across multiple initiatives. The position is intended for an early-career professional who can contribute high-quality work across changing priorities while developing broader strategy and life sciences expertise.

The Strategy Analyst will support the team rather than independently own a major strategy area at the outset. Success will depend on reliable execution, clear communication, sound analysis, and effective collaboration across functions.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct market, industry, competitive, client, and business research to support strategic priorities
  • Gather, organize, analyze, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information into clear findings and actionable insights
  • Support market assessments, competitive analyses, business cases, opportunity evaluations, and value-proposition development
  • Prepare presentation decks, executive summaries, meeting materials, status updates, and other strategy work products
  • Assist with evaluation of opportunities involving life sciences data assets, analytics, AI-enabled solutions, platforms, partnerships, and commercialization
  • Support initiative tracking by maintaining work plans, milestones, action items, dependencies, and status updates
  • Coordinate inputs and follow-up across strategy, product, technology, data, commercial, finance, operations, and other stakeholders
  • Contribute to multiple concurrent projects and adjust to changing team priorities
  • Support reporting, data visualization, and dashboard activities as needed
  • Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, strengthen research and analysis, improve work products, and support continuous improvement
  • Apply AI responsibly in accordance with applicable data privacy, security, confidentiality, and approved-tool requirements

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience gained through employment, internships, consulting engagements, fellowships, substantial academic projects, or related work involving strategy, market research, business analysis, consulting, product management, healthcare, life sciences, analytics, or a related discipline
  • Experience conducting research, market assessments, competitive analysis, business evaluations, business-case development, or related analytical work
  • Experience gathering, organizing, analyzing, and synthesizing information into presentations, reports, summaries, recommendations, or other business materials
  • Experience supporting multiple projects, priorities, or deliverables simultaneously while meeting established deadlines
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders, teams, or business partners to complete deliverables or support project objectives
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Written and verbal communication skills demonstrated through presentations, reports, project updates, summaries, or business recommendations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare provider, health system, healthcare technology, healthcare data, analytics, or consulting environments
  • Experience preparing executive-level presentations, recommendations, or decision-support materials
  • Experience supporting strategic planning, growth initiatives, portfolio analysis, product strategy, commercialization, or business development activities
  • Experience using enterprise-approved AI tools to support research, analysis, synthesis, presentation development, or productivity
  • Internship, fellowship, consulting, or project-based experience supporting strategy, market research, business analysis, healthcare, life sciences, analytics, or related initiatives
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, Domo, SQL, or comparable analytics and visualization tools
  • Exposure to healthcare data, real-world data, life sciences analytics, commercialization, digital health, or AI-enabled business solutions
