Job description

Join a dynamic and innovative team as a Controls Design Engineer in Concord, NC, where your expertise will play a crucial role in advancing process control technologies for a variety of applications, including boilers, industrial furnaces, and combustion systems. We are seeking a talented individual who thrives in a collaborative environment, working closely with fellow engineers and project managers to create cutting-edge solutions that drive project success and exceed sales objectives.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing sophisticated process control systems that meet technical specifications and project requirements. While the position is based at our Concord office, we are open to considering remote applicants from the Carolinas who can travel occasionally for on-site meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop designs for complex process control systems, including those related to combustion and industrial processes.
  • Review project specifications and documentation to establish design criteria, focusing on system power requirements and control system hardware.
  • Convert design specifications into detailed AutoCAD drawings, including:
  • Electrical ladder diagrams
  • PLC input/output module wiring diagrams
  • Detailed layouts for control panel enclosures and subpanels to facilitate fabrication and assembly.
  • Select and recommend appropriate instrumentation for process controls, such as pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, flowmeters, and control valves.
  • Conduct process system evaluations and provide on-site project support as necessary.
  • Assist the sales team with project cost estimation and quoting processes.
  • Offer technical support to both the panel manufacturing team and the valve assembly department.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests for control panels before shipment, ensuring quality and compliance with standards.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned to support team objectives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in controls engineering or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred; however, candidates with a two-year technical degree or associate degree combined with relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing process control systems, particularly in combustion technologies.
  • Skilled in generating electrical schematics, PLC wiring diagrams, and mechanical fabrication drawings.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to adapt to company-specific software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with engineering teams, sales personnel, and clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
