What is a remote content protection specialist?

A Remote Content Protection specialist is a professional responsible for safeguarding digital content from unauthorized access, distribution, and piracy, often while working remotely. They implement security measures such as encryption, digital rights management (DRM), watermarking, and monitoring tools to protect intellectual property, including videos, music, documents, and software. These specialists also investigate breaches, enforce copyright compliance, and collaborate with legal teams to address violations. Their work is crucial for content creators, distribution platforms, and organizations that rely on digital assets.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote content protection roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote content protection roles often encounter challenges such as rapidly evolving piracy methods, coordinating with global teams across time zones, and staying updated with the latest digital rights management technologies. To address these, it's important to engage in continuous learning, leverage collaboration tools for effective communication, and participate in regular cross-functional meetings. Building strong relationships with legal, technical, and content teams also helps in efficiently responding to threats and implementing protective measures.

Job description

Who We Are
Vermillio believes humanity should thrive in the era of AI. That's why we're building essential guardrails for the generative internet - starting with TraceID, our AI protection and licensing technology.
Vermillio is the leader in AI guardrails for protection and licensing. Vermillio brings together 100+ years of combined AI expertise, with its co-founders each building in AI for more than 15 years. The company is well funded and is already working with world-class IP from partners such as Sony and Talent Agency WME.
Our technology creates a secure ethical environment for all builders, makers and creators. Our attribution technology ensures proper credit and compensation reach rightful owners, confirming that AI developers have consent and access to high quality ingredients. TraceID puts everyone in control of what they own, what they build with, and what they create. With our platform TraceID, talent and IP holders can take advantage of the benefits of Generative AI in a safe and secure environment while understanding where and how their valuable data is being used.
The Role
Vermillio is looking for a highly motivated individual familiar with NIL, IP and copyright law to join our Customer Success team and own content protection operations end to end. You'll run takedowns, making rights-based publish decisions on TraceID results, and serving as the day-to-day legal rights contact for some of the most recognizable talent and IP in the world. This is a chance to combat intellectual property theft and work on substantive IP and content protection matters from day one. Our ideal candidate brings experience in IP enforcement and a real interest in working at the intersection of emerging technologies and copyright law.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage takedowns lifecycle end to end; answering clients who have questions about takedowns and rights.
  • Review infraction results and determine what to publish based on the clients' rights.
  • Draft correspondence and other written materials, including editing and reviewing documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and administer Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) notices and cease and desist letters.
  • Collaborate with trade organizations, vendors, and internal teams to address unauthorized use of likeness, copyrights and trademarks.
  • Support in-house attorneys and the Customer Success Team in safeguarding intellectual property rights, including administering DMCA notices and responding to rights violations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 1-2 years of direct or equivalent experience working in content protection, intellectual property or patent related fields
  • Proficiency in legal writing and legal research.
  • Working knowledge of US copyright and trademark law, and of DMCA notice-and-takedown practice.
  • Familiarity with social media outlets and user generated content platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; confident interfacing with high-profile clients and internal leadership.
  • Ability to communicate effectively cross functionally, internally and externally.
  • Proven ability to manage timelines, track follow-ups, and drive work to completion independently.
  • Sound judgment handling sensitive and confidential client information with discretion.

Nice to Have
  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Familiarity with right of publicity / NIL and deepfake or likeness-misuse enforcement.
  • Experience with anti-piracy vendors, platform trust & safety teams, or high-volume notice submission tools.
  • Background in music, film/TV, publishing, or talent representation.

What You'll Get
  • Day-to-day exposure to the world's top talent and IP
  • Working with a very seasoned and world-class AI and Machine Learning team
  • Unlimited paid time off
  • Equity in a tech company in the most exciting, fastest growing sector
  • Flexible spending account, with company contribution
  • Health, dental and vision insurance
  • 401k
  • Opportunity for remote work

What to Expect
This is a collaborative role with high ownership and low bureaucracy. You'll sit on the Customer Success team and report directly to the Chief Business Officer. The work is meaningful: we're helping IP owners protect their likeness and their work in the generative AI era.
