Temporary Digital Content Associate

Temporary San Francisco or Sacramento, - SF or Sac -, CA, US

5 days ago Requisition ID: 1067

Salary Range: $82,400.00 To $103,000.00 Annually

About the role

The Public Policy Institute of California is dedicated to informing and improving public policy in the state through nonpartisan research on a range of topics. PPIC seeks a creative, energetic digital content manager to join our communications team on a temporary basis to cover an upcoming parental leave (mid-September through May 2027). This is a great opportunity for a digital storyteller who can step in and keep our social media presence running smoothly and creatively.

As a key member of PPICโ€™s digital team and overall communications group, the digital content manager will help implement our social media content strategyโ€”creating content, managing our social media presence, and tracking performanceโ€”to engage our diverse audiences across platforms. This position reports to the director of digital strategy and is a hybrid position based in San Francisco or Sacramento. We encourage applications from across California and are flexible with in-office requirements.

Key Responsibilities Social Media Management
  • Manage day-to-day activity across PPICโ€™s social media channels (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram), maintaining a consistent, engaging voice.
  • Monitor news, California policy developments, and PPICโ€™s media mentions to identify timely opportunities for relevant, real-time content.
  • Collaborate with the digital team to plan, execute, and evaluate social media campaigns tied to major reports, events, and organizational priorities.
  • Maintain and protect PPICโ€™s nonpartisan brand across multiple social media channels.
Content Creation
  • Develop, create, and edit high-quality graphics and copy drawn from PPIC research for social media. This social content should be crafted to engage PPICโ€™s target audiencesโ€”California policymakers, staff, journalists, and the broader California policy community.
  • Choose images for use in published reports, ensuring visuals are high quality, relevant, and consistent with PPIC's style and brand.
  • Ideal candidates would be able to shoot and edit high quality short-form social video that promotes PPIC research.
Performance Tracking and Optimization
  • Monitor key metrics across social media to track the impact of digital content and campaigns.
  • Track and report out on metrics for social campaigns tied to major reports, events, and organizational priorities.
  • Stay current with digital trends, emerging platforms, and content best practices, and monitor the digital activities of peer organizations for ideas and benchmarking.
Qualifications Education Experience
  • 5 years of experience in digital content, social media, or communications
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience with social media analytics platforms (e.g., Sprout Social)
  • Experience developing and editing graphics, charts/maps, and video.
  • Experience with video production and editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro).
  • Experience with design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel), WordPress, and preferably interactive graphics software (e.g. Tableau, Infogram, DataWrapper).
  • Working experience in a research organization or a nonpartisan media organization a plus.
Abilities
  • Ability to manage social media across multiple platforms.
  • A solid understanding of brand management; excellent judgement required.
  • Proficiency in web and social media analytics.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Interest in California policy issues.
Communication
  • Superior listening, written and oral communications skills. Strong editing skills.
  • Adept at building relationships with diverse groups of colleagues across the institute.
Resourceful
  • Able to take initiative, maintain focus, and work independently to manage multiple deliverables and timelines. A problem-solver who is proactive, motivated, and well-organized with keen attention to detail.
Application and Compensation Details

Applications will be considered as they are received, and the position will remain posted until filled. Please tailor your cover letter to highlight how your credentials meet the qualifications listed above.

The budgeted salary range for this position is $82,400 - $103,000, dependent on experience. In addition to the salary, the role offers a generous benefit package, excellent work environment, and an exciting mission that will inspire you daily! The comprehensive benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents. PPIC contributes the equivalent of 9% of the salary towards the retirement plan. The organization provides 14 paid holidays and 28 days of PTO annually (PTO balance increases with tenure), and more!
