The Controller leads M2W, Inc.'s accounting function, with responsibility for financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance with U.S. GAAP. Reporting to the SVP of Accounting & Finance, this role ensures the accuracy and timeliness of financial information and supports operational decision-making through clear and reliable reporting.

This role is designed for a candidate who sees accounting as a tool to support business performance, not just recordkeeping. The Controller is expected to translate financial results into meaningful insights that help leadership understand performance, identify risks early, and improve decision-making. Reporting should not only explain what happened, but also highlight what is driving results and what requires attention going forward. The Controller serves as a trusted financial leader, building credibility through accuracy, consistency, and integrity in all financial operations.

The Controller will also play a key role in improving the close process, accounting workflows, and systems to increase efficiency, reduce manual work, and support the company's continued growth.

This role requires strong judgment in prioritizing issues, improving processes, and focusing the accounting function on areas of greatest business impact.

WHAT YOU'LL DOAccounting Operations
  • Lead core accounting activities, including general ledger, revenue accounting, cost tracking, and monthly close
  • Maintain and enforce accounting policies in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Ensure financial processes are scalable and aligned with company growth and operational needs
Close & Reporting
  • Own the monthly and quarterly close process, including timelines, deliverables, and reviews
  • Ensure balance sheet integrity through reconciliations and account analysis
  • Deliver accurate and timely financial statements and management reporting
  • Present financial results to senior leadership and key stakeholders
Revenue & Cost Accounting
  • Oversee revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606
  • Ensure accurate accounting for event costs, vendor expenses, staffing costs, and client billing
  • Partner with operations teams to provide visibility into campaign and project profitability
Treasury & Cash Management
  • Oversee cash management, liquidity planning, and banking relationships
  • Support cash forecasting and working capital planning with finance leadership
  • Manage debt obligations and ensure compliance with lending requirements
Controls & Compliance
  • Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting
  • Lead external audit coordination and support audit requirements
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Improve speed, accuracy, and consistency of the financial close process
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce manual work
  • Partner with technology teams on ERP and financial system enhancements
Team Leadership
  • Manage and develop the accounting team with clear goals and expectations
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships across the organization
WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU HAVE
  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles; experience in staffing, marketing, or service-based environments preferred
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ASC 606; ERP experience (NetSuite or similar) preferred
  • Execution: Proven ability to improve close processes, strengthen controls, and implement efficient accounting workflows
  • Mindset: Treats accounting as a business tool that drives performance and decision-making
  • Communication: Able to clearly explain financial results to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
  • Partnership: Strong track record of working effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams
