Job description

Job Role: Engagement Coordinator, part-time

Summary: Support partner outreach, education, and community engagement

Target Start Date: September 1, 2026

The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) amplifies the value of libraries and cultural organizations as Americans' most trusted sources of shared knowledge. We do this by collaborating with partners to accelerate innovative tools and ideas that empower and equip libraries to make information more accessible.

DPLA seeks a strategic, team-oriented colleague to support our growing work with public libraries. A successful candidate will be passionate about the role of libraries in helping communities navigate a transformed information landscape. A desire to advance this work, in a collaborative spirit within and beyond the organization, is essential.

The ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator, with the ability to analyze and present complex ideas and processes effectively to different audiences. The candidate should have sound judgment, diplomacy, and discretion, and feel comfortable working with people of all levels and backgrounds, internally and externally. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, enthusiastic about the work of sharing knowledge, and able to thrive within a small, adaptable team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting outreach and collaborating with public library partners to build interest, support, and engagement
  • Developing and facilitating training workshops, webinars, and convenings
  • Supporting DPLA's communications and publications
  • Helping to identify and amplify promising library initiatives, case studies, and community voices across the DPLA network
  • Assisting with a regranting or micro-grant program
Requirements
  • Familiarity with the needs and challenges of libraries, including an understanding of the communities they serve.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to relay complex and technical concepts clearly to broad audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with or in public libraries, including rural, tribal, or under-resourced libraries.
  • Experience developing or delivering training or professional development programs.
  • Willingness to work with remote and small distributed teams.
  • This position may require occasional travel for team meetings or events.
Compensation & Terms

This is a part-time temporary position working 20 hours per week for one year. The position will be compensated at an annual range of $35,000-$40,000, depending on skills and experience. The hours have the potential to grow and there may be the possibility of renewal at the end of the year. This position is fully or partially funded by grants; the position is contingent upon the continuation of such program funding.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; this is a remote-only position.

DPLA strives to create an inclusive work environment for everyone. We embrace and celebrate the unique experiences, perspectives and cultural backgrounds that each employee brings to our workplace. DPLA strives to foster an environment where our employees feel respected, valued and empowered.
