Job description

MSI Data is the company behind Service Pro®, an established field service management platform purpose-built for equipment-centric service organizations. For more than two decades, we've helped contractors, manufacturers, and industrial service companies across HVAC, medical equipment, oil and gas, manufacturing, and other verticals run smarter operations - from dispatch and scheduling to mobile workflows, asset management, and ERP integration.
We're a category-focused company at an inflection point: a stable, profitable business with loyal enterprise customers, a strong product foundation, and a clear opportunity to accelerate growth in a category that is rapidly evolving with AI, IoT, and embedded analytics. We're now hiring a CFO who can both protect what's working and help us build the business model and operating discipline of the next chapter.
The Opportunity
This is a true builder's CFO seat. You'll inherit a lean finance function - an outsourced Controller and a Financial Operations Manager running NetSuite to support the usual financial operations of the business (AP/AR, expense management and regular reporting( AP - and a mandate to rebuild it: people, processes, systems, and reporting cadence. At the same time, you'll be a core member of the executive team, partnering with the CEO, executive leaders and our board to rethink our business model, drive organizational change, and chart a credible path from sub-$10M ARR to the next stage of scale.
If you've been a CFO in a PE- or VC-backed SaaS company and you want a role where finance leadership genuinely shapes strategy - not just reports on it - this is that role.
What you'll own
  • Assess current finance function and build the organization needed to support a growing SaaS business;
  • Rebuild the finance function from the ground up: hire, mentor, and structure a team that can support a growing SaaS business.
  • Replace ad-hoc processes with a scalable monthly close, accurate revenue recognition, and clean SaaS metrics (e.g. ARR, NRR, GRR, CAC payback, magic number, rule of 40).
  • Own the financial systems stack centered on NetSuite, including process redesign, reporting automation, and integrations with billing and CRM.
  • Enhance/Refine FP&A Processes: budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and a rolling operating cadence the leadership team can run the business on.

Strategic Partnership and Business Model Evolution
  • Partner with the CEO and the executive leadership team to evaluate and evolve pricing, packaging, and go-to-market economics - what should we keep, what should we change, what new motions should we test?
  • Supportr decisions on segment focus, customer profitability, expansion strategy, and product investment by providing relevant data to support decisions and providing strategic input;
  • Translate strategy into a financial operating plan with clear targets, leading indicators, and accountability across the leadership team.
  • Help drive organizational change with the courage to call out what's not working and the credibility to propose what should replace it.

Co-ownership of G&A
  • Lead Finance and Legal as primary functional owner.
  • Co-own People/HR with the COO - including comp philosophy, employee benefits, equity planning, and workforce strategy as the company scales.
  • Manage external partners: auditors, tax advisors, legal counsel, banking relationships, and insurance.

Capital, Risk and Stewardship
  • Own cash management, working capital, and the financial discipline that keeps a sub-$10M ARR business durable while it invests for growth.
  • Develop board-ready reporting and serve as a trusted communicator with ownership and any future capital partners.
  • Build the financial story and data room readiness needed to support future strategic options as they emerge.

Why MSI Data
  • A real business with real customers, real revenue, and a respected product in a growing category.
  • A leadership team that wants a true partner in the CFO seat - not a scorekeeper.
  • The rare combination of stability and white space: enough foundation to build on, enough opportunity to genuinely shape what comes next.
  • Flexible work arrangements - remote, hybrid, or on-site at our Milwaukee headquarters.
  • Competitive compensation including base, performance bonus, and equity participation.

Requirements
Required
  • Prior CFO experience at a B2B SaaS company, with demonstrated success building or rebuilding a finance function.
  • PE- or VC-backed company experience - you understand sponsor expectations, board dynamics, KPI rigor, and what "ready" looks like.
  • Deep fluency in SaaS economics and metrics, ASC 606 revenue recognition, and SaaS-appropriate financial systems and reporting.
  • Hands-on operator's mindset - comfortable in a small-team environment where you'll build the model in Excel one day and coach a hire the next.
  • Strategic range - you've been in the room when business model decisions get made, and you know how to bring data and judgment to those conversations.
  • Strong communicator and partner to a CEO, COO, VP Revenue and broader leadership team.

Preferred
  • Experience with NetSuite as the system of record.
  • Vertical SaaS or field service / industrial software background.
  • Experience helping a company move through a meaningful inflection - pricing model change, segment repositioning, M&A, or capital event.
  • Track record of building and developing finance teams, not just running them.
