What is a remote chief dispatcher?

A Remote Chief Dispatcher is a professional responsible for overseeing and coordinating the movement and operations of vehicles, such as trains, trucks, or aircraft, from a remote location using communication and tracking technology. They ensure that schedules are maintained, safety protocols are followed, and any disruptions are managed efficiently. Remote Chief Dispatchers often supervise other dispatchers, make real-time decisions, and communicate with field personnel to optimize operations. This role is crucial in industries like transportation, logistics, and emergency services where timely and coordinated movement is essential.

How does a remote chief dispatcher coordinate effectively with on-site staff and other remote team members?

A Remote Chief Dispatcher typically relies on robust communication tools—such as real-time messaging platforms, video calls, and dispatch management software—to stay connected with both on-site staff and remote colleagues. Regular check-ins, detailed status updates, and clear protocols for emergency or high-priority situations ensure seamless coordination across locations. Building strong working relationships and setting clear expectations are essential, as is adapting quickly to changing schedules or logistical challenges that arise in a remote environment.

We replace legacy point solutions with modern technology and AI agents that do real work — in the truck, at the scale house, and on the phones. Our platform runs the full operational stack: CRM, billing, dispatch, routing, scale and recycling workflows, driver app, and customer portal. Haulers use TrashLab to grow revenue and better serve their customers.Since launching in 2023, TrashLab has scaled rapidly: live in 40+ states across hundreds of haulers, revolutionizing a $100B+ category with cutting-edge technology. We recently completed our Series A from top-tier investors, and we're hiring a smart, ambitious team that will define what modern hauler technology looks like for the next decade. We move fast and care deeply about the operators we serve. Learn more at trashlab.com.
About the RoleRoughly 70% of the job is managing agents, 30% managing people. On the agent side, you run a fleet to ship features, design the workflows they run in, make the architecture calls, and review their output. On the people side, you coach and manage a distributed team, and act as a sharp technical partner to the CTO.
It's built for an EM or tech lead manager who wants to get more hands-on, not less. If management pulled you away from building, agents put you back in it while the team keeps scaling.
Responsibilities

  • Run a fleet of agents to build, research, and ship in production
  • Drive architecture, including what the agents produce
  • Partner with the CTO to reimagine the software stack for the agentic world
  • Coach and grow the engineers on the team
  • Drive a high performance culture across the US and Remote team.
  • Partner with CTO on company level special projects across security, compliance, and cost management.

You're a Great Fit If

  • You already run 10+ agents to build and research, daily
  • You've managed engineers as an EM or tech lead manager, and want to get more hands-on
  • You're a sharp engineer, not a manager who stopped coding
  • You dive into the details and drive the business outcomes
  • You coach engineers well and people want to work for you
  • You've managed a distributed team across time zones

Nice to Have

  • Vertical SaaS, logistics, or billing experience
  • Real-time or high-reliability systems: dispatch, telephony, payments
  • Built agent workflows into a production product
  • TypeScript/Node and Postgres (our stack)
  • Early-stage startup experience
