Job description

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead web content management, website operations, and digital modernization projects for a federal government customer. This position will manage high-visibility, public-facing .gov websites and Drupal-based web platforms, coordinating development, content management, accessibility, testing, infrastructure, security, and production support activities.

The ideal candidate will have direct experience managing web or digital projects within a federal government contracting environment, including hands-on familiarity with Drupal, federal .gov websites, and Section 508 accessibility compliance. Experience with Akamai or comparable content delivery network (CDN), website performance, or edge-security technologies is preferred.

This is a remote position supporting a federal customer located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage federal web content management, website development, modernization, and operations and maintenance (O&M) projects.
  • Lead projects supporting public-facing .gov websites and Drupal-based content management systems.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, milestones, deliverables, risks, dependencies, and performance measures.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including Drupal/web developers, content specialists, Section 508/accessibility specialists, QA testers, infrastructure engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and business stakeholders.
  • Manage website releases, enhancements, upgrades, migrations, patches, and production support activities.
  • Coordinate web content publishing workflows and content lifecycle management.
  • Ensure websites and digital content comply with Section 508 accessibility requirements and applicable WCAG standards.
  • Coordinate accessibility testing, remediation, validation, and documentation.
  • Monitor website availability, performance, security, accessibility, and user experience.
  • Support technologies related to Akamai or similar CDN, caching, traffic management, edge delivery, application security, and website performance.
  • Apply Agile project management practices to support iterative development and continuous website enhancements.
  • Manage customer expectations, project risks, schedules, deliverables, SLAs, and contractual performance requirements.
  • Serve as a primary interface with federal customer stakeholders, technical teams, contractor leadership, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Prepare project status reports, dashboards, executive briefings, risk reports, and required contractual deliverables.
  • Support compliance with applicable federal cybersecurity, privacy, accessibility, and digital-service requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing IT, web, digital, or technology projects.
  • Demonstrated experience working as a federal government contractor or direct employee of a U.S. federal agency.
  • Demonstrated project management experience supporting public-facing federal .gov websites.
  • Experience managing projects involving Drupal or Drupal-based content management systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Section 508 accessibility compliance and familiarity with WCAG standards.
  • Experience managing web development, content management, website O&M, or digital modernization projects.
  • Experience coordinating technical, content, accessibility, QA, security, and operational teams.
  • Experience managing project schedules, risks, deliverables, performance metrics, and customer expectations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with federal customers, technical teams, and senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required federal Public Trust or suitability requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Akamai technologies, including CDN, caching, traffic management, website acceleration, edge delivery, or web application security.
  • Experience managing large-scale or high-traffic federal websites.
  • Experience with AWS or other cloud-hosted web environments.
  • Experience with Drupal upgrades, migrations, or modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps and CI/CD processes supporting web applications.
  • PMP certification.
  • Agile certification such as CSM, PMI-ACP, or SAFe.

Compensation

Estimated Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000 per year

Actual compensation will be based on relevant experience, education, certifications, technical qualifications, contractual requirements, geographic considerations, and other business factors.

Benefits may include medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with employer contribution or match; paid time off; paid holidays; and professional development opportunities.
