Regional Consulting Manager information

What does a regional consulting manager do?

A Regional Consulting Manager oversees consulting operations within a specific geographic region, leading a team of consultants to deliver projects and services to clients. Their responsibilities include managing client relationships, ensuring project quality and profitability, developing business opportunities, and aligning regional strategies with the company's overall goals. They also mentor and support their teams, resolve issues, and coordinate with other departments to optimize service delivery. Regional Consulting Managers play a key role in driving business growth within their designated area.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a regional consulting manager?

To thrive as a Regional Consulting Manager, you need strong leadership abilities, project management expertise, and a background in consulting or business administration, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with CRM systems, data analysis tools, and certifications such as PMP or Six Sigma are commonly required. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and client relationship management skills set standout candidates apart. These skills ensure effective team leadership, successful project delivery, and sustained client satisfaction across multiple regions.

How does a regional consulting manager balance client-facing responsibilities with internal team leadership duties?

A Regional Consulting Manager often divides their time between engaging with clients to understand their needs and challenges, and leading a team of consultants to ensure project success. Balancing these responsibilities requires strong organizational and communication skills, as the manager must coordinate client meetings, oversee project delivery, and provide mentorship to team members. Regular check-ins with both clients and internal teams help maintain alignment on goals and deliverables. This dual focus not only ensures client satisfaction but also supports the professional growth and cohesion of the consulting team.

Job description

The Red Hat North America Public Sector Services team is looking for a Consulting Manager to join our team. In this role, your primary focus is cultivating top technical talent, empowering team members to reach their career aspirations, and fostering an inclusive, high-performance culture. As a People Manager, you will lead a team of technical delivery associates, balancing compassionate advocacy with business alignment. You will play a pivotal role in associate development, team enablement, customer project preparation, and driving strategic initiatives across our regional delivery teams.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Associate Onboarding & Enablement: Facilitate impactful onboarding experiences and partner with every associate to build custom, strategically aligned enablement plans that blend their personal growth goals with customer demands.

  • Resource Management & Talent Placement: Collaborate proactively with the Resource Management Office (RMO) to align associate skills and career passions with incoming project demands, while supporting healthy target utilization. During strategic downtime between projects, guide associates through enablement plans and regional giveback initiatives.

  • Performance & Career Development Execution: Drive continuous growth across your team by facilitating regular coaching sessions, quarterly performance connections, and actionable career advancement plans. Solicit continuous feedback from project teams to celebrate wins and address development areas.

  • Customer Project Coordination & Delivery Impact: Partner with project managers and regional leadership across engagement preparation, kick-offs, and closeouts.

  • Mentorship & Hiring: Lead behavioral interviewing and technical talent selection to build out high-performing teams. Provide ongoing mentorship to associates.

  • Escalation Management & Advocacy: Act as an advocate for your team. Collaborate with leadership, delivery teams, and HR to proactively address, de-escalate, and resolve associate challenges early.

  • Recognition & Visibility: Champion your team's achievements, advocate for their personal brand exposure, and create opportunities to showcase their work across the broader organization.

  • Strategic Leadership & Giveback: Influence regional strategy by leading or contributing to high-visibility business initiatives (e.g., Communities of Practice, regional planning, hiring, and rewards programs).

What You'll Bring (Required Skills)

  • People Leadership: Demonstrated passion for and experience in people management, career coaching, onboarding, and talent mentorship.

  • Consulting Ecosystem Savvy: Understanding of the technical consulting landscape, software concept fundamentals, and customer delivery models.

  • Delivery Operations: Experience with project coordination, delivery execution, or supporting core project management workflows.

  • Autonomous Execution: Proven ability to navigate complex, fast-paced environments, manage competing priorities, and execute strategic plans independently.

  • Communication & Engagement: Strong interpersonal skills with a knack for delivering clear, influential messages across all organizational levels.

  • Collaborative Mindset: Enthusiastic self-starter who thrives in a distributed, remote-first team environment with flexibility for periodic travel.

The salary range for this position is $130,420.00 - $215,300.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.
