What does a recruiting assistant do?

A recruiting assistant is involved in a company’s recruiting process. They are often employed in human resources departments (HR) and specialize in the recruitment of candidates for employment with the company. Job duties include contacting potential candidates, scheduling interviews, following up during the recruitment process, and updating employee records. They may also perform background checks and verify a candidate’s qualifications and experience. Qualifications for a career as a recruiting assistant usually include an undergraduate degree.

What does a recruiting assistant do?

A Recruiting Assistant supports the recruitment process by handling administrative tasks such as scheduling interviews, communicating with candidates, maintaining applicant tracking systems, and assisting recruiters with job postings and candidate sourcing. They help ensure that the hiring process runs smoothly and efficiently for both the HR team and applicants. Recruiting Assistants also may help with onboarding new hires, conducting initial screenings, and organizing recruitment events.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a recruiting assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Recruiting Assistant, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a background in human resources or business administration, often supported by a relevant associate’s or bachelor’s degree. Proficiency with applicant tracking systems (ATS), HR software, and tools like Microsoft Office is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills help you build relationships with candidates and support recruiters effectively. These capabilities ensure efficient hiring processes, positive candidate experiences, and overall team success in a fast-paced recruiting environment.

What are some common challenges faced by recruiting assistants, and how can they be managed effectively?

Recruiting Assistants often manage multiple job openings and candidate pipelines simultaneously, which can lead to a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environment. Balancing competing priorities, such as coordinating interviews, responding promptly to candidate inquiries, and supporting recruiters with administrative tasks, is a core challenge. Effective time management, attention to detail, and clear communication with both candidates and team members can help manage these demands. Leveraging applicant tracking systems and organizational tools also streamlines workflows and ensures nothing falls through the cracks.

Recruiting Business Partner

Careers with MRA | MRA

Waukesha, WI • On-site

Full-time

Job description

Be the next FACE of MRA!

Friendly. Accountable. Centered on Members. Engaged.

That's the FACE Culture - and what we live and breathe here at MRA.

MRA - The Management Association is a member-focused organization committed to connecting businesses with the HR expertise and talent solutions they need to succeed. We're looking for an experienced Recruiting Business Partner to join our team - someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment, builds trust quickly with hiring managers, and knows how to deliver results across multiple clients at once.

The Role

As a Recruiting Business Partner, you'll work directly with MRA member organizations across a variety of industries, serving as a consultative partner throughout the full recruiting cycle. You won't just fill jobs - you'll help members define what they're looking for, develop smart sourcing strategies, and serve as a trusted advisor along the way.

Because this is an on-demand role, your workload will shift based on active member assignments. The ability to pick up new projects quickly, manage several at once, and pivot when priorities change is essential. Please note: This is an on-demand role with no guaranteed hours. Assignments are project-based and vary in scope and duration - making it an ideal fit for an experienced recruiter who values flexibility over a predictable schedule.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with member companies to define roles, qualifications, and hiring strategies
  • Source candidates through LinkedIn Recruiter, job boards, social media, and professional networks
  • Screen and interview candidates using behavioral-based techniques
  • Translate job descriptions into compelling postings and develop effective interview tools
  • Research market compensation data and provide recommendations to hiring managers
  • Track recruiting activity and maintain clear, organized status reports and metrics
  • Stay current on recruiting best practices, employment law, and EEOC compliance
  • Identify opportunities to connect members with additional MRA services that support their broader HR needs

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of recruiting or HR experience
  • A genuinely consultative approach - you listen well, ask good questions, and build relationships quickly
  • Proven ability to manage multiple open searches across different clients or industries simultaneously
  • Strong sourcing skills, including LinkedIn Recruiter, Boolean search, and social media recruiting
  • Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems and HRIS platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently and adapting quickly as priorities shift
  • Knowledge of EEOC and employment law compliance
  • A degree or HR/recruiting certifications (PHR, SPHR, CSSR, LinkedIn Recruiter) are a plus but not required.

Why MRA

MRA has built a reputation for delivering high-quality, member-first HR and recruiting services. As part of our Recruiting team, you'll have the flexibility to take on meaningful work without the constraints of a traditional full-time role - and the opportunity to make a real impact for the organizations you support.

If you're an experienced recruiter who loves variety, values relationships, and can hit the ground running on day one, we'd love to connect.
