Job Summary
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time Recreation Program Coordinator position. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering a variety of recreation programs, including select licensed programs. Duties include determining participant eligibility, scheduling and coordinating program activities and events, managing facility use, monitoring program budgets and expenses, maintaining program databases and records, recruiting and supervising staff and volunteers, and providing information and support to program participants and the public.
We are currently hiring for the following location(s):
• Claude Moore Recreation & Community Center, Sterling, VA 20164
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Coordinates and oversees assigned recreation and licensed programs and activities.
• Manages program budgets and monitors expenditures.
• Develops and implements marketing strategies to promote programs, including flyers, press releases, direct mail, newsletters, advertisements, and web-based content.
• Ensures frontline staff are informed about program offerings and updates.
• Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises program staff, activity supervisors, and leaders.
• Maintains and oversees program records and documentation.
• Coordinates volunteer recruitment and supervision.
• Performs other essential job functions related to the position and departmental assignment.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in a field related to the assigned program or department; two (2) years related work experience with some lead or supervisory experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a related field; (2) years of related experience in a supervisory role.
• CPRP certification or equivalent. Membership and/or involvement in related professional organization(s).
• Bilingual skills, including English and Spanish, preferred.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
Must undergo criminal background, fingerprinting, credit, DMV, and Child Protective Services (CPS) background checks. A DMV check, a valid driver's license, and a good driving record are mandatory. Driving records may be assessed each year to verify ongoing compliance with qualification standards. TB test within 30 days of hire. Hold or obtain First Aid/CPR certifications at hire or within four (4) months.
