A2 brings together, supports, and organizes alongside grassroots groups on the frontlines of climate change, building collective power to fight for environmental protection and health across the United States and its territories. We are the nation's largest coalition of frontline communities, representing more than 450 member groups.

We seek a full-time Grants and Member Engagement Manager to manage our grant-writing program for A2 member organizations and provide them with hands-on support. This role leads multi-member funding initiatives, delivers training, and supports members in developing competitive proposals for major state, federal, and national funding opportunities, with a particular emphasis on climate resilience funding. This role also coordinates onboarding support for new members and maintains relationships with the existing membership.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week), U.S. based fully remote position (with the potential to attend or travel to in-person events and conferences), with a salary of $63,000-68,000, plus health care benefits, PTO, and a 401k plan. 

1-1  Grant Support for Members (~25%)

• Provide one-on-one assistance to members to brainstorm project ideas, refine scopes of work, and align proposals with funder priorities.
  
• Review, edit, and provide substantive feedback on select member grant applications, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation.
  
• Support partner-led technical assistance programs, including grant-specific clinics and office hours.
  
• Maintain relationships with members operating active grants in order to ensure compliance.

Building members' capacity to write grants (~25%)

• Manage A2's grant-writing program for our members, coordinating with internal team members to support funding opportunities for which multiple A2 members are eligible.
  
• Develop and maintain standardized grant templates, guidance materials, and shared resources to support member grant applications.
  
• Identify, track, and disseminate relevant funding opportunities to members using tools such as GrantStation and other funding databases.
  
• Ensure alignment between grant-writing activities and A2's broader programmatic, policy, and member support goals.
  
• Lead grant-focused webinars and trainings for A2 members on funding strategies, proposal development, and compliance requirements.
  
• Lead partnership-centered training for A2 members to access municipal or government eligible funding streams (e.g. FEMA BRIC, State Revolving Funds, etc.)

Major Funding Opportunities (15%)

• Develop and maintain a calendar of specific, nationwide funding opportunities at varying funding scales to support A2 members (e.g. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) Five Star Grant, NFWF National Coastal Resilience Fund, CDC Foundation Climate Resilience Grants, Frontline Justice Fund, etc.).
  
• Meet with pre-identified A2 member groups - whose projects appear particularly well-suited for larger grant opportunities (~$500K) - to gather details, evaluate fit, and narrow to a final set of strong candidates.
  
• Lead drafting of pre-proposals and full proposals for the final group of vetted member candidates, working closely with the members, project partners, and relevant A2 staff.
  
• Coordinate with the Coastal Resilience Grants Manager to ensure they have the information needed to meet A2's contractual obligations to funders.
  
• Help identify and facilitate communication and coordination among collaborating organizations, consultants, and stakeholders involved in joint proposals.

Member Engagement (~25%)

• Support outreach to prospective A2 members, including introductory meetings to discuss membership benefits and expectations.
  
• Coordinate new member intake, orientation, and early engagement, including regular check-ins during the initial membership period.
  
• Manage A2's member listserv to share relevant news and information, funding opportunities, and A2 announcements.
  
• Manage ongoing recruitment of new members through referrals from existing members and partners, and statewide organizing efforts.
  
• Cultivate stronger relationships with existing members, including by familiarizing them with our capacity building support and making them feel connected to the larger A2 member network (Our goal is for >60% of our members to feel deeply connected to A2's network and services).
  
• Train and manage long-term volunteers and interns to support member outreach, capacity-building programming, and database cleaning.

Coordination, Tracking & Reporting (~5%)

• Track grant-writing activities, submissions, and outcomes across the membership.
  
• Coordinate with the Development and Strategic Partnerships Manager to maintain organized records of grant opportunities, applications, and awards.
  
• Coordinate with A2 staff to support internal reporting, funder compliance, and continuous improvement of grant support services.
  
• Contribute to refining A2's grant-writing strategy based on lessons learned and member feedback.

• Demonstrated (2+ years) experience in grant writing and grant management, particularly for government, environmental, and national foundation funding.
  
• Strong understanding of climate resilience, environmental justice, community development, or related fields.
  
• Experience providing technical assistance, training, or capacity-building support to community-based or nonprofit organizations, particularly around project development and grants management.
  
• Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail.
  
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously while working collaboratively across teams.
  
• Comfort building and maintaining relationships with community leaders, nonprofit partners, and funders.
  
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, external partners, and diverse community-based organizations.
  
• Familiarity or enthusiasm to learn about federal environmental funding programs (e.g., NFWF, FEMA, EPA, NOAA) is preferred.
  
• Ability to develop tools, templates, and training materials to strengthen member capacity.
  
• Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with a natural warmth and authenticity that fosters trust and genuine connection with members, partners, and funders.
  
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and CRM systems.
  
• Strong work ethic, accountability, and collaborative spirit, with an ability to take initiative, follow through on commitments, and contribute positively to a team environment.
