DEFINITION:

Under general supervision, the Recreation Aide will act as support staff to Recreation Activity Leaders in the supervision and development of recreation programs for the Community Services Department.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Recreation Aide is an entry-level classification in the Community Services Department. Under general supervision, an incumbent is responsible for acting as support staff for the Recreation Leaders in the promotion, organization, and leadership of a variety of recreation activities. Recreation Aides are also responsible for performing a range of clerical and administrative tasks to support daily operations of a front office setting.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

Receives general supervision from Recreation Leaders and Community Services Coordinator. Incumbents do not routinely supervise others.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following)

  • Assists with planning and conducting recreation programs and events to meet the interests of the community.
  • Assists with light maintenance of facility, grounds, and equipment.
  • Provides leadership in athletics, crafts, games, special events and programs, including tiny tots, youth and teen activities.
  • Maintains order among patrons.
  • Controlls equipment and supplies.
  • Collects registration/ reservation fees and maintains records
  • Provides support, as well as administrative and general custodial services at Launch Pointe RV Park.
  • Performs other tasks or functions as needed.
  • Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies and associations, City management and staff, and the public.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires both near and far vision in reading written reports and work related documents. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds is also required. Required to work evenings, weekends, outside in elements, etc.
