The Smithtown Center for Rehabilitation is a state of the art 162- bed facility that is team-oriented and thrives on making our residents comfortable and happy!

Currently we seek are seeking a Part-Time Recreation Leader

Salary $21-22/Hr

Part-Time Recreation Leader Job Description:

  • Responsible for planning and leading interesting large/small group programs that meet the needs of the adult, geriatric and dementia population (social, emotional, spiritual, physical and cognitive) as well as age-specific
  • Assist in the selection of safe and adequate space, equipment and supplies for recreation programs
  • Ability to carry out group/independent recreation programs independently; including set up and clean up of activity
  • Familiar with a variety of crafts and leisure time recreation and is able to teach these to the residents
  • Coordinate planned recreation programs with the patient/resident schedule of other services
  • Assist in reviewing the patient/residents recreation participation and revise the plan as necessary with the Activity Director or Assistant Activity Director
  • Maintain daily individual resident attendance sheets in a timely manner
  • Transport residents in wheelchair to/from activity programs daily
  • Assist in developing a monthly calendar of events based on individual and group needs, interests and capabilities
  • Assist in posting the monthly activity calendar accessible to the residents
  • Completes assigned work in a timely manner
  • Performs any other duties necessary as assigned
  • Communicates with other personnel and other departments
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by Activities Director

Part-Time Recreation Leader Specific Requirements:

  • Must possess leadership ability, maturity, compassion and willingness to work harmoniously with staff
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions and think outside the box
  • Represents the organization professionally
  • Maintains HIPPA privacy and confidentiality standards
  • Participates in activities that require teamwork
  • Available for scheduled weekend and evening programs
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors and the general public
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm and the ability to handle difficult residents
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must be fully vaccinated

Part-Time Recreation Leader Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • At least 1-2 years previous experience working in recreation geared to the elderly population

Part-Time Recreation Leader Schedule:

  • Wednesdays – Saturdays
  • 9:30am – 5:00pm
  • Flexibility a plus
