Record labels are companies that are responsible for producing, distributing, and promoting music recordings and artists. Record labels also handle marketing, copyright management, and often provide financial support for recording and touring. There are major labels, which have global reach, as well as independent labels that focus on niche markets or specific genres. Working with a record label can help artists gain exposure and access to professional resources.
