SUMMARY: This position is responsible for acquiring qualified, quality Rare Books auction consignments. Additional responsibilities include building and expanding the client base, generating and closing leads, evaluating property appropriate for auction, and contributing to marketing and sales strategies to grow the Rare Books category.


LOCATION: South of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, NW corner of W. Airport Freeway (Hwy. 183) and Valley View Lane

COMPENSATION: Commensurate based on experience. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with senior management on business and sales strategies to expand the Rare Books category.
  • Source quality consignments from private collectors, estates, dealers, and institutions.
  • Acquire consignments through Heritage Auctions and individually generated lead resources.
  • Evaluate property for condition, authenticity, and provenance to ensure adherence to auction value guidelines.
  • Negotiate Terms of Consignment with consignors.
  • Market lots in auctions to targeted clients and institutions; actively promote and "sell the sale."
  • Expand the client database by securing new bidders and consignors in the Rare Books category.
  • Travel as needed to meet with clients and assess property for potential consignment.
  • Participate in catalog production, including proofing text, images, and promotional materials.
  • Support private treaty sales as needed.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5+  years of experience in an auction house, commercial dealership, or major institution specializing in Rare Books.
  • Expertise in early printed books, fine bindings, literary first editions, or related areas.
  • Background in Maps and Botanicals is a plus.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proven track record in high-level business generation and client relations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Team-oriented, self-motivated, and highly organized.
  • Positive attitude and strong customer service skills.
