Job description

Position: School Counselor/Student Services Coordinator To Whom Responsible: Building administrator and Assistant Superintendent of Student Services For Whom/What Responsible: The comprehensive guidance program for students; special services team participation. Qualifications:
Degree - minimum of Master's degree in guidance and counseling from an accredited institution.
Certificate - Missouri School Counselor for assigned grade levels.


Experience Minimum of 2 years successful teaching experience. Primary Responsibilities: To provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program with activities appropriate for level of students; To consult with parents and staff members to enhance program effective-ness; To support other educational programs of the school.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING PROCESS
 




  1. Teach guidance units effectively.
  2. Encourages staff involvement to ensure the effective implementation of the guidance curriculum.
  3. Collaborates with parents, helps students establish goals and develop and use planning skills.
  4. Demonstrates accurate and appropriate interpretation of assessment data and the presentation of relevant unbiased information.
  5. Counsels individual students and small groups of students with identified needs/concerns.
  6. Consults effectively with parents, teachers, administrators and other relevant individuals.
  7. Implements an effective referral process in collaboration with parents, administrators, teachers, and other school personnel.
  8. Provides a comprehensive and balanced guidance program in collaboration with school staff.
  9. Provides support for other school programs.
  10. Creates a climate conducive to counseling.
  11. Implements a variety of effective guidance and counseling procedures.
  12. Guides educational and career plans.
  13. Provides orientation activities.
  14. Provides transition activities.
  15. Implements building testing program and interprets assessment results.
  16. Assists with safety instruction, including substance abuse education.
  17. Evaluates the guidance program.
  18. Assists with crisis intervention.
  19. Fulfills special services team responsibilities.
  20. Completes duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building administrator or Director of Special Programs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
A school counselor may be employed on an extended contract based on assignment. Compensation is prorated for length of contract past 181 days according to the teacher salary schedule as established annually by the Board of Education.  Employee benefits are determined according to total FTE of contracted assignments.
EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated by the building administrator according to board policies and the Warrensburg R-VI School District adopted model of Performance Based Counselor Evaluation.
