Proposal Capture information

What is a proposal capture professional?

A Proposal Capture professional is responsible for leading and managing the process of identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities, usually in response to formal requests such as Requests for Proposals (RFPs). They collaborate with sales, technical, and management teams to develop winning strategies, gather requirements, and ensure proposals meet client needs and compliance standards. Their work is crucial for organizations competing for contracts in industries like government, defense, and large-scale commercial projects. Proposal Capture professionals often oversee the entire lifecycle of a proposal, from opportunity assessment to submission and post-submission follow-up.

What are some common challenges faced by proposal capture professionals during the proposal development process?

Proposal Capture professionals often face tight deadlines and the need to coordinate input from multiple stakeholders across departments, such as technical teams, pricing analysts, and subject matter experts. Balancing compliance with client requirements while crafting a compelling, winning narrative can be challenging. Additionally, managing last-minute changes and ensuring all contributions are integrated smoothly requires strong organizational and communication skills. Adaptability and collaboration are key to overcoming these challenges and delivering high-quality proposals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a proposal capture manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Proposal Capture Manager, you need expertise in business development, proposal writing, and market analysis, typically supported by a bachelor's degree and experience in sales or government contracting. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) systems, proposal management software (e.g., Shipley, Microsoft Office Suite), and knowledge of federal acquisition regulations are often required. Strong project management, communication, and leadership skills help you coordinate cross-functional teams and build client relationships. These abilities are crucial for developing competitive proposals, winning new business, and ensuring organizational growth.

What is the difference between Proposal Capture vs Proposal Writer?

Proposal Capture focuses on identifying and securing new business opportunities by engaging with potential clients and understanding their needs. Proposal Writers, on the other hand, concentrate on crafting compelling proposal documents that meet client requirements. Both roles are essential in the proposal process but serve different stages: capture is about winning the opportunity, while writing is about presenting the solution effectively.

Description

About our 2027 Summer Internship Program

Join our summer internship program, spanning from May 17th, 2027 to August 6th, 2027. Gain invaluable experience through meaningful projects alongside our innovative, solutions-driven teams. Elevate your professional growth with opportunities for professional development, senior leadership Q&A, volunteer initiatives, networking/social events, and more!

What You Can Expect Working in the Estimator Intern Position

The Estimator Intern supports RedGuard's Custom Projects  estimating function by assisting with active estimates and completing targeted  process-improvement work. The internship is designed to provide meaningful  exposure to estimating complex, engineered modular buildings while producing  practical tools and data that improve departmental accuracy, consistency, and  efficiency. Working under the Custom Projects Sales Manager and alongside the  Preconstruction Manager, Estimators, Sales, Engineering, Project Management,  Production, and outside vendors, the intern will contribute to material  takeoffs, cost development, quote coordination, estimate documentation, and  proposal support. The intern will also complete a primary capstone project  focused on takeoff-software standardization and more repeatable  steel-structure estimating in ProEst.

Responsibilities

Review requests for quotation, drawings,  specifications, customer scopes of work, floor plans, project planning  information, and related bid documents to help identify project requirements  and scope gaps.

Perform detailed material takeoffs and assist  with the development of material, labor, freight, subcontractor,  design-service, and other estimate inputs under the guidance of experienced  team members.

Enter and organize estimate information in  ProEst, including quantities, cost inputs, assumptions, inclusions,  exclusions, and supporting documentation.

Assist with vendor and subcontractor requests  for quotation; track responses and capture pricing, lead times, scope  clarifications, qualifications, and exclusions.

Help verify alignment among the estimate,  proposal, drawings, customer requirements, and supporting bid documents before  internal reviews and customer submission.

Participate in bid reviews, estimate revisions,  process discussions, and cross-functional meetings to understand how  commercial, technical, and production decisions affect project cost and risk.

Maintain orderly estimate files, cost  references, takeoff records, and assigned tracking tools so work can be  reviewed, repeated, and transferred to other team members.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Current student or recent graduate in  construction management, engineering, architecture, building science,  industrial technology, business or data analytics, or another relevant field;  an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and applicable  experience will be considered.

Strong technical aptitude, curiosity, and  demonstrated ability to learn unfamiliar systems, terminology, and processes.

Basic ability to interpret technical drawings  and specifications, or the demonstrated capacity to develop that skill  quickly.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other  Microsoft 365 applications.

Strong attention to detail, quantitative  reasoning, organization, written communication, and verbal communication  skills.

Ability to work independently within defined  assignments while seeking guidance when assumptions, scope, or risk are  unclear.

Ability to collaborate professionally with  employees, vendors, and other stakeholders and to manage changing priorities  in a deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Coursework or experience involving construction  estimating, structural systems, steel fabrication, manufacturing, cost  analysis, process improvement, or data organization.

Experience with Bluebeam Revu, PlanSwift,  Autodesk Takeoff, ProEst, computer-aided design software, or comparable  estimating and takeoff tools.

Experience creating reusable templates,  assemblies, tool libraries, standard work, or documented workflows.

Prior internship, employment, student  organization, or project experience in a construction, engineering,  architecture, fabrication, or manufacturing environment.
