Portico has an amazing opportunity to join our team as a Property Accountant!
Job Summary
The Property Accountant is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial statements for an assigned portfolio of properties in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role manages the monthly and quarterly close process, prepares journal entries, reconciles balance sheet accounts, and supports acquisitions and dispositions while ensuring compliance with internal controls and reporting deadlines. Responsible for transition-related accounting activities associated with the onboarding and offboarding of properties, including coordination of financial data transfers, balance validations, and setup or closeout of accounting records. Supports smooth property transitions by ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely processing of transition accounting deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform monthly and quarterly financial close for assigned properties
  • Prepare and post journal entries in the general ledger
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and research variances
  • Compile and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Assist with accounting for acquisitions, purchase price allocations, and disposition entries
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and accounting procedures
  • Meet all internal and external reporting deadlines
  • Communicate financial results and respond to inquiries from property managers and executive leadership
  • Support audit processes and provide requested documentation
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience (public accounting or industry)
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with journal entries, debits/credits, and general ledger structures
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in real estate or property management accounting
  • Experience with purchase price allocations and acquisition accounting
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
