Position Summary

Farmhouse Inn is seeking a skilled and service-oriented Maintenance Engineer to help preserve the exceptional guest experience for which our Forbes-rated luxury property is known. The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel's buildings, guestrooms, public areas, restaurant, spa, back-of-house facilities, and grounds through preventative maintenance, repairs, and daily operational support.


This position requires a proactive professional who takes pride in craftsmanship, responds quickly to maintenance requests, and works collaboratively with all departments to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for guests and team members.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Preventative Maintenance
  • Perform preventative maintenance on guestrooms, public spaces, mechanical systems, and equipment.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance assignments in accordance with established preventive maintenance programs.
  • Inspect building systems and identify repair needs before they become operational issues.
  • Maintain accurate preventative maintenance records.
General Maintenance
  • Repair and maintain:
    • HVAC equipment
    • Plumbing systems
    • Electrical fixtures
    • Lighting
    • Appliances
    • Doors, locks, and hardware
    • Drywall, paint, and finishes
    • Carpentry and cabinetry
    • Flooring and tile
  • Perform guestroom repairs while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and guest privacy.
  • Troubleshoot maintenance issues efficiently and safely.
Guest Service
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance requests.
  • Complete work with minimal disruption to guests.
  • Maintain a courteous, professional demeanor while interacting with guests.
  • Support the property's Forbes luxury service standards through attention to detail and responsiveness.
Property Operations
  • Assist with seasonal maintenance projects.
  • Maintain pools, hot tubs, irrigation systems, and exterior facilities as assigned.
  • Monitor utility systems for efficiency and proper operation.
  • Assist with snow, storm, or emergency response when necessary.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all OSHA, Cal/OSHA, environmental, and company safety standards.
  • Maintain compliance with fire and life safety requirements.
  • Properly handle chemicals, tools, and equipment.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in emergency response procedures.
Inventory & Equipment
  • Maintain engineering tools and equipment in good working order.
  • Monitor inventory of maintenance supplies.
  • Notify management of needed materials and replacement equipment.
  • Assist in receiving and organizing engineering inventory.
Teamwork
  • Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Spa, and other departments.
  • Assist with property improvement projects.
  • Participate in department meetings and required training.
  • Support special events and operational needs as assigned.

Qualifications

Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience in hospitality, commercial facilities, or a similar environment.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Electrical systems
    • Plumbing
    • HVAC
    • Carpentry
    • Painting
    • General building maintenance
  • Ability to safely operate power tools and maintenance equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
Preferred
  • Luxury hotel or resort maintenance experience.
  • EPA Certification or HVAC certification.
  • Pool Operator Certification (CPO).
  • Experience with preventative maintenance software (HotSOS, Alice, or similar CMMS systems).

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Climb ladders and stairs.
  • Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and reach overhead.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
