Role Overview:

The Portfolio Analyst will play a critical role in the implementation, monitoring, and ongoing management of multiasset investment strategies across institutional and highnetworth client portfolios. This individual will work closely with portfolio managers, quantitative researchers, and risk teams to translate research insights into scalable, compliant, and efficient portfolio outcomes across a broad multiasset platform.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Portfolio Implementation & Execution

    • Lead the implementation of researchdriven investment ideas across institutional and highnetworth client accounts.
    • Support portfolio rebalancing, transitions, and ongoing portfolio construction activities across multiple asset classes.
  • Portfolio Monitoring & Risk Oversight

    • Monitor portfolio allocations, exposures, and risk metrics; proactively identify and escalate risks or implementation issues.
    • Assist in daytoday portfolio management across the broader multiasset platform, ensuring alignment with stated objectives and constraints.
  • Research & Investment Support

    • Conduct multiasset research projects to identify new investment ideas, asset allocation themes, and risk management enhancements.
    • Translate qualitative and quantitative research insights into actionable portfolio recommendations.
  • Process Improvement & Technology Collaboration

    • Collaborate with quantitative researchers and investment technology teams to enhance trading, implementation, and portfolio monitoring processes.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement of tools, workflows, and data infrastructure supporting the investment process.
  • Governance, Compliance & Client Stewardship

    • Work closely with Legal and Compliance to ensure adherence to all regulatory, contractual, and fiduciary requirements related to client portfolios, investment processes, and reporting.
    • Support new product launches by providing subjectmatter expertise on portfolio construction, implementation feasibility, and operational readiness.
  • Independent Ownership & Expertise

    • Operate independently with indepth knowledge of the multiasset investment platform and business unit.
    • Serve as a subjectarea expert, providing comprehensive analysis and guidance to stakeholders across investments, risk, sales, and product teams.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
  • Strong understanding of strategic and tactical asset allocation, portfolio construction, and multiasset risk management.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to synthesize qualitative judgment and quantitative analysis into clear investment recommendations.
  • Programming proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Familiarity with institutional investment and data platforms such as Aladdin, Databricks, Snowflake, Bloomberg, ArcherIMS
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across investment, technology, and control functions.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum 4+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably within a multiasset, fixed income or equity portfolio analyst, implementation, or investment strategy role.
  • Graduate degree in Financial Engineering, Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience supporting institutional or highnetworth client portfolios strongly preferred.

Salary Range:

$114,500 - 194,700 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits.
