Job description

We are seeking a Director, Project Development to join our team. In this role, you will lead the development of large-scale industrial green hydrogen projects from conception through Final Investment Decision (FID), deploying Electric Hydrogen's HYPRPlant equipment.

This is a senior individual contributor role requiring a commercially minded leader with a passion for industrial decarbonization. You will be responsible for building and advancing a pipeline of investable green hydrogen and e-Fuel projects, managing all aspects of project development, including site selection, customer origination, permitting, power procurement, financing, and commercial contracting. You will lead cross-functional teams and serve as the primary development lead for projects within your portfolio.

You will work in a hybrid capacity from our Houston, TX office and report to the Vice President, Project Development.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Originate and develop a pipeline of large-scale green hydrogen projects across the United States, advancing opportunities from concept through Final Investment Decision (FID) utilizing Electric Hydrogen's HYPRPlant technology.
  • Lead all project development activities, including site acquisition, customer and offtake agreements, renewable power procurement, grid interconnection, permitting, and project financing.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industrial customers, offtake counterparties, landowners, utilities, and project partners to support both active projects and future business opportunities.
  • Lead cross-functional project development teams, including internal stakeholders and external consultants, to achieve project milestones on schedule and within budget.
  • Develop, maintain, and evaluate project economic models and proformas, identifying and mitigating risks while providing recommendations at key investment decision points.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, capital approvals, and reporting processes, ensuring transparency and alignment across stakeholders.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in assigned market segments, such as ammonia, methanol, e-SAF, and other emerging decarbonization pathways, contributing to business strategy and project origination efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with global sales teams to support customer partnership structures, including development services agreements, joint ventures, and other commercial arrangements.
  • Partner with internal and external technical experts to evaluate technology options and project design pathways, including e-Fuel production technologies.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of project development experience within the energy, renewable energy, industrial, or infrastructure sectors, with a demonstrated track record of advancing projects through development to financial close or Final Investment Decision (FID).
  • Experience in green hydrogen, industrial gases, e-Fuels, or related clean energy industries strongly preferred.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience developing customer relationships, negotiating commercial agreements, and supporting project origination efforts.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage external service providers across engineering, legal, environmental, permitting, commercial, and finance functions.
  • Strong understanding of project economics and financial modeling, with the ability to evaluate development risks and communicate recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently, navigate ambiguity, and drive projects forward in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, integrity, inclusion, and team success.
