About Us

Join a talented team of engineering professionals at Vogt Power International Inc. Vogt is based in Louisville, KY and specializes in the design, manufacture and supply of equipment and solutions to the power generation industry. We are an industry leader in heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) with both domestic and international customers. 

Position Summary

The Project Director position is responsible for the overall coordination, execution and achievement of objectives for a major program(s) or projects valued at greater than $100 Million.  Areas of responsibility include setting strategy and master plan to direct major projects, contract administration, schedule development and maintenance, managing the communication of project requirements to functional groups; i.e., project management, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, subcontractors, evaluation, and field operations. Responsibilities also include project financial reporting to senior management and managing project close-out, warranty efforts, customer and consortium.  A thorough understanding and previous direct experience with key project management concepts such as Change Management, Critical Path Method Scheduling and Earned Value is required. The Project Director/Program Manager will be responsible to ensure these concepts are consistently, accurately and timely implemented by the project management staff across all assigned projects. Provide the assigned project managers with feedback and direction for ensuring that the principles of project management are utilized throughout the project life cycle.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

         Responsible for the ongoing mentoring and development of all assigned personnel as well as the development of procedures and work flow processes, which will ensure all projects are completed on time and within budget.

         Manage a multi-function team of members from various key stakeholders - project management and engineering, manufacturing, testing, operations, service, customers and suppliers; develop procedures in conjunction with marketing and engineering as a means of establishing project engineering scope of work, scope estimates and budgeting.

         Coordination, facilitation and evaluation of multifunctional project teams to ensure efficient and on-time completion of projects. Will plan, coordinate and monitor projects, develop scope of work, confer with departments and consultants, prepare construction plans and documents, budget reports and authorization related recommendations.

         Advise, consult, and assist internal project teams on an ongoing basis to achieve project goals.

         Ensure measures are taken in projects to improve quality

Takes an active role in general project planning and ensures timely delivery of all progress reports, including monthly performance information and associated updates, from the team and all other imperatives linked to the work of the team.

Work with assigned Project Managers to identify opportunities to consistently meet all project deliverables.

Regularly monitor and track project progress in the areas of scope, schedule (SPI), budget (CPI) for individual projects.

Initiate and conduct specific reviews for projects at risk or as requested by management. Oversees management of all commercial aspects of contracts and contract change orders to optimize the Company's profit potential and minimize risk and exposure.

Support Project Managers, and where necessary directly participate, in the resolution of disputes with Suppliers and Customers.

The Project Director/Program Manager must have the experience necessary to lead the project management staff to identify potential change orders and in the development of details necessary for negotiation and closure. This would also include a similar leadership role for resolution of major change requests from suppliers. Requires the ability and experience to facilitate the communication of key contract commercial terms between project teams, contract administration/legal and customers/suppliers. This also includes the ability to clearly identify and communicate the identification and mitigation of risk to both the project teams and the management team. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills for relationship building and collaborative work. Must be able to address large-scale problems in conceptual and practical ways. Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of initiative.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

         4-year BS degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Project Management; Master's in Business Management, Construction Management or Project Management preferred.

         15+ years' experience in the project management and/or construction management of large multi-discipline complex projects in the field of power generation and environmental air quality control systems for coal fired power plants.

         Graduate degree in business or management highly desirable and / or professional certification in contracts, purchasing or project management.

         Experience with subcontracting or managing construction projects is plus

The base pay range for this Project Director/Program Manager role is $150,00 - $180,000 annually.
