Job Summary

The Assistant Manager of Golf Course Equipment assists the Golf Course Superintendent with the maintenance, repair, and management of all golf course maintenance equipment. This position supports the daily operation of the equipment maintenance facility and helps ensure that all equipment is maintained to GCSAA standards for safety, performance, and environmental stewardship. The role supports preventive maintenance programs, recordkeeping, staff training, and compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Preventive Programs

  • Assist in establishing and executing a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all golf course maintenance equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and Superintendent direction
  • Perform routine inspections, diagnostics, adjustments, and repairs on mowing equipment, utility vehicles, tractors, sprayers, and small engines
  • Support seasonal equipment setup, reel grinding coordination, bedknife adjustments, and cutting unit calibration
  • Ensure equipment reliability to meet daily golf course maintenance schedules and course conditioning standards

Golf Course Operations Support

  • Work closely with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents to ensure equipment availability aligns with agronomic programs
  • Assist with equipment preparation and support for tournaments and special events
  • Maintain understanding of turf maintenance practices to ensure equipment settings support agronomic objectives
  • Assist with golf course maintenance tasks, such as mowing or rolling greens and other tasks assigned by superintendent.

Shop & Fleet Management

  • Assist with daily operation and organization of the equipment maintenance facility
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of shop, equipment wash areas, fuel stations, and storage facilities
  • Assist in managing fueling, washing, and proper storage of all equipment
  • Promote adherence to GCSAA Best Management Practices (BMPs) related to equipment maintenance and environmental protection

Inventory, Records & Budget Support

  • Assist with maintaining accurate equipment maintenance records, service logs, and parts inventory
  • Support equipment usage tracking and lifecycle planning
  • Provide input to the Superintendent on parts needs, equipment repair costs, and replacement planning
  • Assist with cost control and budget awareness related to equipment maintenance

Safety, Training & Compliance

  • Promote and enforce workplace safety standards consistent with GCSAA, OSHA, and facility policies
  • Assist with training staff on safe and proper operation of equipment
  • Identify unsafe operating conditions and recommended corrective actions
  • Support environmental compliance related to fueling, fluids, and waste handling

Leadership & Staff Support

  • Assist with supervision and guidance of maintenance staff as it relates to equipment operation and care
  • Serve as acting equipment lead in the absence of the Equipment Manager or Superintendent, as assigned
  • Foster a professional, team oriented work environment consistent with GCSAA Code of Ethics

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in golf course equipment maintenance or turf equipment mechanics
  • Working knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Ability to follow preventive maintenance systems and maintain accurate service records
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred (GCSAA Typical)

  • Certificate or degree in turf equipment technology or related mechanical field
  • Experience working at a GCSAA affiliated golf facility
  • Familiarity with reel grinding processes (in house or coordinated service)
  • Supervisory or lead technician experience

The expected pay range is $52,000.00 - $71,158.89. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
