Position Summary

The Community Programs Assistant supports the delivery of engaging and enriching experiences for youth and families at the Chinatown YMCA. Working under the supervision of Program Site Coordinators and Directors, this role assists with enrichment activities, family events, and food programs. The ideal candidate is flexible, proactive, and dependable, with a commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and positive environment throughout the program.

Job Responsibilities

Program Support & Youth Engagement

  • Assist in planning and leading enrichment activities and family events for youth and adults.
  • Engage participants in meaningful, age-appropriate experiences that foster personal growth and development.
  • Set a positive example for staff, children, and volunteers.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Enforce YMCA safety policies, supervision standards, and mandated reporting requirements.
  • Monitor participants' activities, enforce safety regulations, and respond swiftly to emergency situations.
  • Ensure all program activities adhere to YMCA of San Francisco's child safety protocols and best practices.

Administrative & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate program records, including attendance logs, emergency information, and policy documentation.
  • Follow guidelines outlined in the YMCA of San Francisco Child Care Staff Manual.
  • Ensure all youth programs comply with safety and security requirements.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Foster respectful and professional communication with staff, participants, parents, and volunteers.
  • Incorporate input from parents, participants, and staff when planning activities.
  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This position operates in a dynamic youth program setting, which may include indoor and outdoor environments. The role requires frequent movement, including standing, walking, bending, and engaging in physical activities with youth. Candidates must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and demonstrate the ability to actively supervise participants. The work schedule may include weekends and occasional evenings, depending on program needs.
