Job description

Manages the clinical psychosocial workflow of the social work team, performed by the Social Workers for patients with complex psychosocial needs. Ensures the provision of social work services to patients and families to optimize their ability to benefit from treatment, aligning the plan of care with patient understanding, cope with the adjustment of their medical condition, participate and supports care coordination for safe and timely disposition plans. Develops and maintains current knowledge of and liaisons with local, state, and federal services that may provide resources to patients and families. Interviews applicants, makes recommendations for hiring and salaries for new employees; completes performance appraisals in a timely manner, counsels and disciplines employees as needed.
Coordinates staffing and provides clinical supervision to staff social workers. Designs learning, delivers training, and facilitates organizational change. Measures and evaluates impact of education and contributes to the improvement of human performance. Participates in management of the learning function, staff coaching, career planning, talent management, and managing organizational knowledge. Leads programs or workgroups and provides internal organizational development consulting. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with mission, visions and values of Tampa General Hospital.
Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Comprehensive understanding of the psychological, social, environmental, and financial impact of illness on patients and families.
  • Current knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including compliance standards for social work practice and discharge planning.
  • Familiarity with competency assessment processes, program evaluation methodologies, and quality improvement frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of patient safety, infection control, regulatory standards, and hospital policies.
  • Proficient in conducting formal and informal needs assessments, developing action plans, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Skilled in program development, quality improvement, and process redesign to remove barriers to timely discharge.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills to address patient care, staff performance, and operational issues.
  • Effective communication, coaching, and feedback skills, with the ability to deliver corrective action and reinforce guiding principles.
  • Ability to manage day-to-day operations of social work staff and ensure timely, appropriate, and payor-compliant discharges.
  • Ability to model and reinforce organizational service standards and patient satisfaction strategies.

Qualifications
  • Licensed Clinical Social Work license required.
  • Master's degree in Social Work required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a health care facility or program
  • Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience.
