Summary:
The Social Work Manager ensures the provision of social work services by managing the daily operations of Social Workers including community resource planning and clinical interventions. The Manager provides clinical supervision and leadership of Social Workers as they provide the highest quality of family centered care to patients and families. The Manager ensures compliance and accountability of all functions and services of Social Work role within the facility. Assists patients and their families with access to an optimal level of health care through service, integrity, social justice, and dignity, through community resources appropriate to their psychosocial and health related social needs based on developmental age.
Responsibilities:
Develops, implements, reports, and follows up on social service initiatives. Coordinates resources and work assignments to meet Social Work performance targets and departmental customer services expectations in a cost-effective manner. Identifies resource needs and coordinates with leadership.Responsible for the people management life cycle including, but not limited to, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management and professional licensure development of Social Work staff to meet performance expectations.Develops and initiates psychosocial plan of care with patient, family and medical team, that respects the dignity and worth of the individual, while providing therapeutic support for complex needs and health related social needs such as homelessness, food insecurity, healthcare access, as evidenced by documentation in the electronic health record and/or by observation/feedback.Ensures staff adherence to policies and procedures by Social Workers within the department by providing support through guidance and/or coaching, when appropriate, of new and existing program initiatives within the Memorial Healthcare System.Completes administrative role through timely completion of budgeting, internal department audits, employee attendance, payroll related tasks, attending management planning meetings, coordination of staff schedules and assignment of staff to hospital areas with coverage needs.Supports Social Workers serving as interpreters of medical information for families while collaborating with physician, nursing and ancillary staff by attending planned family conferences, and meeting with medical team to review clinical impressions as needed.Relies on quality improvement process to identify improvement opportunities to evaluate programs/service outcomes and implements changes in policy and procedures that impact patient care throughout the Social Work department.Provides clinical supervision to Social Work staff through review of patient plan of care and evidence-based interventions addressing mental health and that help meet performance expectations, offer best clinical outcomes and empower patient and families admitted to hospital.Assists in the development and implementation of performance evaluations and improvement initiatives for Social Workers within the department to promote clinical competence and offer best care options when interacting with patients, families and medical team.Initiates and maintains ongoing collaboration with state protection agencies including Department of Children and Family, and law enforcement to ensure safety and protection of children and vulnerable populations such as elderly and children with special health care needs who have been exposed to trauma, maltreatment (abuse, neglect, exploitation, human trafficking, sexual assault, death and dying issues).Completes outreach with community providers and coordinates education of resources from community providers to staff within the Social Work department to ensure information is disseminated by Social Workers engaged in services with families in need of assistance.

Complexity of Work: The Manager of Social work is responsible for overseeing the department to ensure that all social work services meet the highest standards of care and compliance within regulatory and ethical guidelines. This role requires a deep understanding of social work principles, health care policies, and community resources along with the ability to manage complex cases. In this capacity the manager is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures that enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of social work while ensuring that intervention are tailored to meet the needs of each patient. This role requires strong analytical and decision making skills to assess program effectiveness. Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Required Work Experience: Three (3) years of supervisory/management experience in the area of Social Work and, at least, two (2) years of experience in an acute care setting.
