Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Reporting to the Manager or designate, under the clinical supervision and direction of the anesthesiologist and in accordance with the standards of practice and guidelines of the Canadian Anesthesiologists Society (CAS), the Anesthesia Assistant functions as a member of an integrated surgical team by providing technical support and clinical assistance with induction, maintenance and recovery phases of anesthesia. QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience Graduation from a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy.

Completion of an accredited post-graduate Anesthetic Assistant Program. Comprehensive knowledge of current anesthesia theory and practice, and knowledge of the Canadian Anesthesiologists Society (CAS) clinical practice guidelines. Eligible for Anesthetic Assistant membership with the CAS.

Basic Cardiac Life Support certification. Skills And Abilities Demonstrated ability and skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
