POSITION                                           Pharmacy Assistant
COMPANY AND LOCATION             Specialty Pharma Solutions (Oshawa)

HOURS WORKED                                      Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm
DEPARTMENT                                    Pharmacy
REPORTING TO                                 Designated Manager, Pharmacy

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Assistant plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the pharmacy and contributing to exceptional patient care. This position is responsible for a wide range of activities, including answering telephone and email inquiries, scheduling prescription refills, billing, preparing and labeling medications, and collecting payments.
The successful candidate will also assist patients in navigating public and private insurance plans by determining medication coverage and resolving coverage-related issues when appropriate. They will work closely with pharmacists and other team members to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely service. 
We are seeking a reliable, organized, and detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and approaches tasks with a strong sense of urgency. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and customer service skills, along with a genuine commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
Experience with Kroll Pharmacy Management Software (Kroll) and the ability to troubleshoot prescription adjudication issues with public and private insurance providers are considered strong assets, but are not required.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintaining patient files, including accurate entry of patient care information including allergies and medical conditions
  • Accurate data entry of prescriptions into Kroll and filling/billing such prescriptions
  • Communicate with patients, prescribers, healthcare professionals and other key stakeholders to support patients throughout their treatment journey
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient healthcare information at all times
  • Investigate and support the reimbursement process for insurance coverage and benefits for patients, including eligibility, co-payments, deductibles, and special/prior authorizations
  • Liaise with public/private insurers and patient assistance programs to determine coverage options for patients
  • Scheduling of medication refills with patients
  • Maintaining prescription and OTC drug inventory, including completing inventory counts, checking expiry dates and placing drug orders
  • Maintain a clean and organized dispensary
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with Kroll Pharmacy Management Software (preferred)
  • Excellent Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and G Suite
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • High level of professionalism
  • Strong written, verbal, and computer skills are required
  • Self-motivated with strong work ethic
  • Deadline-oriented and strong prioritization skills a must
  • Experience with patient support programs and/or special authorization process (asset)
EDUCATION
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
