As part of its vision to promote excellence in funeral service, the Service Corporation International Scholarship Program supports 50 outstanding mortuary science students annually, with over $80,000 in scholarship awards.

As part of its vision to promote excellence in funeral service, the Service Corporation International Scholarship Program supports 25 outstanding mortuary science students annually, with over $96,000 in scholarship awards.

Qualified applicants must meet the below criteria:
Be enrolled in a college or university funeral service or mortuary science program accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE).
Be actively enrolled at the time of the scholarship application deadline.
If selected as a finalist, remain actively enrolled in an ABFSE-accredited program at the time of the scholarship event in March 2027.
Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Not have previously received an SCI Mortuary Science Scholarship.

The application process includes uploading an essay, short answer responses, and a resume. You can save a partial application, but it is recommended that you have your resume, essay and short answer responses ready when you begin your application. (At the end of the Fall semester, an official transcript will need to be submitted to Campus.Relations@sci-us.com as the final piece of the application.)

Essay

Write a 250-300 word personal statement describing:

Prompt: Every generation has an opportunity to leave its mark on a profession. What do you hope your generation of funeral service professionals will contribute or change, and what role do you hope to play?

*Essay submissions will be judged on the first 300 words. Any essays exceeding 300 words will not be considered in entirety.

Short Answer Submissions

Write a 100 word response addressing the below required questions. *Any content exceeding 100 words will not be reviewed.

Required Question 1: What is one piece of constructive criticism that has helped you grow?

Required Question 2: Beyond technical knowledge, what quality do you believe families need most from a funeral service professional?

Required Question 3: Complete this sentence and explain your answer: "People can count on me to __________."

Resume

Please submit your professional resume. Your resume should reflect your work experience, volunteer events you have participated in and/or your community involvement. Your resume will not be submitted for employment opportunities without your knowledge.

Transcript

At the end of your completed 2026 Fall semester, you will need to secure a copy of your official transcript with your cumulative grade point average. If you are a newly enrolled student and will not have a transcript with your fall 2026 grades, please attach the last official transcript from your previous school.
