Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a highly responsible and visible position providing expertise and management consultation related to the provision of health services to Florida’s refugees/entrants under the supervision of the Chief of the Bureau of Epidemiology. The Refugee Health Program provides health assessments for newly arriving refugees/entrants who focus on the screening for communicable diseases and the provision of immunizations. As Florida is one of the leading ports of entry from foreign-born populations in the United States, the position collaborates with many stakeholders and serves as a critical source of information related to the management of health services for refugee/entrant populations. This position acts as a liaison between the Florida Department of Children and Families, Refugee Services, and county health departments. This position requires familiarity with immigration laws and public health policies. Responsible for the supervision of staff Including appraisals, planning, and directing their work, approving leave, having the authority for hiring, and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions.
Supervises direct reports including motivating, training, providing guidance, and direction. Develop expectations and meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, and discipline action, if needed. Maintains vacation and work schedules to ensure proper coverage and completes timesheets. Ensure all staff complete required training and are offered additional training.
Coordinates with State Health Office staff, county health departments, immigration officials and the Florida Department of Children and Families, Refugee Services, on matters related to the availability, accessibility and utilization of refugee/entrant health care services.
Ensures the timely distribution of funding to county health departments through the agency’s schedule-c process.
Oversee the Health Program for Refugees grant to ensure that the requirements and objectives of the grant are met on a timely basis.
Develops refugee/entrant health goals, objectives, priorities and procedures in collaboration with the Florida Department of Children and Families, Refugee Services, and ensures that they are consistent with the State Refugee Plan.
Collects and analyzes data related to the health of Florida’s refugee/entrant population and provides reports on trends and new developments.
Prepares annual and ad hoc reports on immigration and refugee entrant health issues for use by the Department, county health departments, local health care providers and government agencies.
Ensures that refugee/entrant health issues and concerns are represented in relevant discussions with Medicaid, Medicaid HMOs, Children’s Medical Services, Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Health and the Agency for Health Care Administration.
Researches the availability of alternative funding sources for providing health services for refugees/entrants and, if applicable, makes application to federal, state and local resources. Interacts with other states, providing information on health issues in Florida as they relate to refugee/entrant populations.
This position may require occasional in-state and out-of-state travel.
