Job description

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Expanse Professional Development Specialist is responsible for administering educational materials and activities designed to improve the electronic health record (EHR) advanced technology creating efficiencies for the care team. The specialist enables improved care coordination for patients, facilitating enterprise growth and power innovation through the EHR platform. This includes the educational aspects of orientation and onboarding of clinical employees and development of education that addresses EHR practice gaps for the target audiences within, an identified specialty to achieve specific outcomes. The duties of this position ease work across workgroups, interacting with various stakeholders to ensure EHR material is applicable to the identified specialty and is implemented using HCA Healthcare’s clinical education standards.

 Major Responsibilities:

  • Participates in strategic planning and business development within area(s) of responsibility to support new service offerings, technology advances, and other opportunities to drive differentiation and support the growth agenda through the development of educational programs.
  • Delivers learning through methods that consist of live virtual training/asynchronous, web-based training/electronic performance support solutions combined with other technology-based solutions using a blended learning approach.
  • Represents the organization positively within the community; participates in company-supported community/patient events and in-services.
  • Stays abreast of external factors and opportunities impacting healthcare; to include political, legislative, and regulatory changes, emerging technologies, and advancements in healthcare delivery.
  • Understand the competitive landscape. Supports the organization to respond to these changing healthcare dynamics and market environments through clinical education.
  • Operates within the annual budget.
  • Optimizes department performance in accordance with established budget, including the utilization of staffing, supplies, and equipment identifying cost reduction opportunities to achieve savings.
  • Collaborates with the clinical education and Expanse implementation team to systematically evaluate HCA’s education plan to determine achievement of expected outcomes and resource allocation.
  • Integrates best available evidence into practice into HCA’s clinical education service line.
  • Collaborates with the Expanse implementation team and division VPs, Clinical Education supporting improved nursing and allied health practices of the organization through clinical education and competency management.
  • Consistently seeks improvement opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the competency management program through the review of evidence for best practices in competency management.
  • Problem solves independently and engages stakeholders appropriately.
  • Role models lifelong learning and remains cognitive of nursing and allied health professional development trends and changes in practice to best meet the educational needs of our clinicians.
  • Incorporates adult educational theory and pedagogy into the development of EHR educational content or orientation technology processes.
  • Coordinates the change control process to ensure the training environment remains in sync with education production for the assigned application area(s).
  • Demonstrates an understanding and ability to apply evaluation methodologies, (i.e., Kirkpatrick) into courses and curriculum to refine clinical content and programs.

What you will need for this role:

  • Masters degree, required
  • 2 + years of experience in an acute care facility, with at least 2 years of experience in an identified specialty, required.
  • 2+ years of experience in education, organizational development in a hospital setting, required.
  • Education professional with the ability to develop course content, provide course delivery, conduct learner evaluation, and utilize adult learning principles, required.
  • 1 + year(s) of experience in Education of Nursing, Allied Health, or instruction of Clinical EHR application, required.
