Position Title: Web Development Instructor - NYC
Position Type: Contract (September 3, 2026 - December 10, 2026)
Contract Rate:  $2,750 per cohort (2 cohorts available)
Location: Hybrid, 3 in-person/onsite weeks

America On Tech (AOT) is a national nonprofit preparing the next generation of technology leaders from underestimated communities. Since 2014, AOT has provided no-cost tech education and workforce training to students in NYC, LA, Miami, and Atlanta. AOT equips young people with in-demand skills in AI, Web Development, Data Science, and more, creating pathways to higher education and careers.

About the Tech Flex Leaders Program:
The Tech Flex Leaders (TFL) Program is an immersive, out-of-school time program for juniors and seniors enrolled in high schools in New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta or Miami. The program is designed for students interested in technology and now includes a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) to reflect the evolving tech landscape.

Through TFL, students will engage in:
  • Weekly technical training sessions taught by industry experts, now including introductory AI concepts and tools to build foundational skills in emerging tech.
  • Professional development workshops that explore identity, leadership, and how to navigate tech careers with confidence.
  • Career days and mentorship opportunities with professionals from leading technology companies, including those working in AI and other advanced tech fields.

We are currently seeking dynamic, intentional, and skilled Web Development Instructors to bring our TFL  Web Development curriculum to life for students this semester. Our TFL instructors will work with 2 different cohorts of students who meet once a week for 2.5 hours. Each cohort is between 25 and 30 students, all either juniors or seniors in high school. 

Web Development Instructor Scope of Work:
  • Virtual Instructor Onboarding - Required meetings:
    • September 3, 2026 from 4:30 - 6:00 PM EST (Program Team + Curriculum Onboarding)
    • September 11, 2026 from 4:30 - 5:30 PM EST (Team Alignment Meeting)
  • If managing 2 cohorts:
    • Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. from September 14, 2026 - December 10, 2026.
      • Mandatory in-person sessions take place in Manhattan the weeks of: September 14th, November 9th, and December 7th
    • Recommended: ~2 hours hours/week for preparation, assessment, and student office hours
NOTE: There is no program for students or Instructors during the week of November 23rd.
  • (Optional) Demo Day Competition on Wednesday, December 16th from 5:00 - 8:00 PM
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Curriculum Prep and Instruction:
  • Review AOT’s TFL curriculum on a weekly and daily basis to ensure command of material
  • Prep auxiliary activities or examples to bring the content to life for students
  • Lead all content sessions, paying particular attention to student engagement
  • Work with the program manager to develop remediation plans to support student content mastery, including offering office hours
  • Create an inclusive classroom atmosphere where all students feel valued and supported in their learning journey

Data Management:
  • Ensure complete student submission of all program assignments and projects
  • Assess student projects and assignments using AOT-developed rubrics, providing regular written and verbal feedback before the next class session
  • Submit feedback form on curriculum and program implementation 
  • Provide summary data on key metrics for program reports

General:
  • Uphold AOT’s core values in all aspects of the role
  • Foster and maintain a positive and welcoming classroom environment for all program participants and partners 
  • Attend regular check-in meetings with the program manager and peer mentors to ensure alignment ahead of the day’s session
  • Complete any additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will show up each day excited to support students to success, doing whatever it takes to ensure a dynamic, encouraging, and successful program experience for all. Ideal candidates also:
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or at least 2-3 years of equivalent experience
  • Have expertise and experience in coding and web development (HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript)
  • Have experience in coding and web development instruction, particularly with a high-school age audience
  • Have the ability to explain coding and web development concepts in multiple ways and to students with varying levels of experience
  • Have awareness of emerging AI trends and real-world applications
  • Understand AI's impact on industries such as technology, business, and education
  • Have the ability to teach students AI literacy and ethical AI usage within the context of coding/web development
  • Have strong facilitation skills for engaging students in meaningful discussion that furthers their learning
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Have the ability to foster an inclusive, engaging, and interactive learning environment
  • Have the ability to provide constructive feedback and assess student progress
  • Possess strong organizational skills for managing course schedules and assignments
  • Exhibit proficiency in Google Suite, especially Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google Slides, Google Sheets and Google Classroom
  • Own a reliable laptop/desktop with a webcam, working audio, and internet speeds that exceed the minimum requirements for hosting a Zoom meeting
  • Have experience using and managing browser-enabled coding platforms such as Repl.it, Glitch, Code Sandbox, etc.
