Product Owner remote interns often face challenges such as limited face-to-face interaction with stakeholders, managing communication across different time zones, and understanding product requirements without in-person guidance. To overcome these challenges, it's important to proactively schedule regular check-ins with team members, utilize collaborative tools like Jira or Trello for tracking tasks, and document questions or updates clearly. Building strong digital communication habits and seeking feedback frequently can help remote interns stay aligned with the team's goals and contribute effectively.

To thrive as a Product Owner Remote Intern, you need a foundational understanding of product management principles, agile methodologies, and strong analytical skills, often supported by coursework or relevant internships. Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Trello, or Asana and basic knowledge of wireframing or roadmapping software is typically expected. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills help you effectively convey requirements and coordinate with remote teams. These skills are crucial for ensuring product goals are met efficiently and stakeholders stay aligned in a virtual work environment.

What is a Product Owner Remote Internship?

As a vital member of the Product Management team, the Product Owner will frequently interact with other Product Owners, Developers, and most importantly archivists and records managers themselves to determine the needs of our clients. You will create and prioritize requirements that enable development teams to build features that help organizations preserve, discover, and share their archival collections. You Would Feel Right at Home If...
  • You're known as an organized task master who is happy managing the constant challenge of ensuring tasks get organized and prioritized in a logical manner
  • You are proud of your ability to deeply understand what users want and clearly and concisely communicate complex concepts to a variety of people ranging from archivists and records managers to developers
  • You are a self-starter and able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
  • You enjoy using a wide variety of software applications, learning new ones, and learning how things work using the trial and error method-you consider yourself a lifelong student who thrives in an environment that is constantly evolving

  • You have a genuine interest in archives, records management, digital preservation, or cultural heritage-or are excited to learn about these domains

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Agile process, including remote team members, acting as the expert for the Archives product and its users
  • Represent the archivist when planning features, driving new functionality development from a user perspective-understanding workflows around accessioning, arrangement, description, preservation, and access
  • Interact with users virtually and in person to ensure a complete understanding of the problems they are trying to solve; conducting product walk-throughs for both internal and external audiences
  • Assist development teams in creating a consistent, intuitive user experience for the Archives product
  • Stay current with archival standards and best practices (ISAD(G), DACS, ISAAR(CPF), EAD, Dublin Core) and understand how they inform product requirements
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Customer Success, Sales, and Support teams to gather feedback and identify opportunities for product improvement
Requirements
  • A post-secondary degree or certificate in a relevant discipline is required (Library Science, Information Science, History, Archival Studies, Computer Science, or related field)
  • 3-5 years' experience in a technical environment or working with archives/records management systems
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving skills are prerequisites for this role
  • An aptitude for technical concepts and the ability to simplify them for less-technical individuals is integral to your success
  • Experience using a development task-management system for backlog prioritization would serve you well
Bonus Points For:
  • Prior experience with Jira and/or Aha!
  • Pragmatic Marketing Product Management training or similar certification
  • Familiarity with archival standards (ISAD(G), ISAAR(CPF), EAD, DACS) or metadata standards (Dublin Core, METS, PREMIS)
