Job Summary

The Tax Digital Transformation & Innovation (DT&I) Product Management Director leads the product lifecycle for proprietary technology solutions supporting the tax practice and delivery of services to clients. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of tax and technology product development with a proven track record of successfully launching and managing products used to enable the delivery of professional services.

A DT&I Product Management Director coordinates with the tax practice and software development team to set the strategic direction for creating and implementing technology to meet the needs of our clients and professionals. A DT&I Product Management Director will oversee a portfolio of products.

Job Duties Product Roadmap and Value Creations
  • Defines the product vision, strategy and roadmap to maximize value delivered by ensuring the prioritization of the roadmap is aligned with tax practice strategy and needs
  • Manages product scope, budget, and timeline
  • Leads the product team in delivering value
  • Coordinates with Value Management Office or similar organization to track and report business value and value creation
  • Manages the product portfolio and lifecycle, including new product development and end-of-life decisions
  • Oversees market analysis, competitive analysis, and product positioning
Product Development Lifecycle Management
  • Ensures products are developed consistently with BDO’s tax technology strategy and guiding principles
  • Ensures product team members are following leading practices for providing requirements/user stories and working with the development team
  • Oversees the process of gathering requirements/user stories
  • Oversees the development and execution of product business testing plans
  • Coordinates with the tax practice and technical teams for product release logistics
  • Ensures all required prerelease reviews and approvals are completed prior to release
  • Manages the creation and execution of the deployment, adoption, and change management plans
  • Manages the execution of product maintenance plans and budget
  • Ensures product complies with all relevant policies and risk issues are identified and addressed
Stakeholder Management
  • Serves as a face of the product for stakeholders, coordinating and communicating proactively with all relevant stakeholders
  • Serves as a liaison between the business and developers, gathering and applying feedback from users and others in the tax practice
  • Proactively manages stakeholder expectations and engagement to ensure product success
Market Presence
  • Participates in pursuits by presenting BDO’s technology stack capabilities related to products under management
  • Educates tax professionals and business development professionals on BDO’s technology tools and how to present them as part of their pursuits and leverage them effectively on engagements
Other duties as required Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Ensures appropriate resources are assigned to managers, senior associates, and associates on projects to meet objectives and timelines
  • Oversees Product Management managers, senior associates, and associates working on assigned projects
  • Acts as career advisor to team members as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Education
  • Bachelor’s degree required; focus in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Business Administration or Computer Science, preferred
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation or J.D., preferred
Experience
  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in tax and/or technology product management, required
  • Four (4) or more years of experience in tax, preferred
  • Four (4) or more years of experience in technology product management with a track record of successfully launching and managing product, preferred
  • Experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, partnerships, and individuals preferred
  • Experience with process design and/or improvement, preferred
  • Experience serving in a product management/product owner role for enterprise grade tax applications that support the delivery of professional services, preferred
License/Certifications
  • CPA, JD, EA, PMP, or other relevant certification, preferred
  • Certified Product Manager, preferred
Software
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, required
  • Experience with project management tools (Azure DevOps, Jira, etc.), preferred
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Income Tax compliance (OIT) software and ONESOURCE Tax Provision, preferred

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $215,000 - $240,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $215,000 - $240,000
