The AERO Specialties Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting new product development, customer-specific products, production engineering, and quality initiatives across the organization. This individual is responsible for helping ensure corporate initiatives are met through the innovation and development of world-class products and product enhancements.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with Manufacturing and Sales teams to design safe, durable, easy-to-use, and cost-effective products.
• Design and develop new products using SolidWorks 3D modeling software.
• Conduct required preliminary studies to determine the proper selection of materials and tolerances compatible with manufacturing processes.
• Occasionally guide and instruct technicians performing directly related work and analyze test results.
• Design and assemble prototypes and set up and lay out test procedures. Interpret problems, review part discrepancies, and take corrective action when necessary.
• Maintain product technical data. Supply the Technical Writer with all technical data for products, including, but not limited to, maintenance schedules, bills of materials (BOMs), assembly exploded views, and customer operator procedures.
• Organize product technical information to support customer questions. Maintain document control of all company drawings, procedures, and quality checklists.
• Work with vendors and maintain knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes.
• Review designs and documentation for conformance to customer specifications and change orders.

Requirements

What qualifies someone for this position?

• SolidWorks, AutoCAD, FEA software, and ERP database experience required.
• Must be skilled in the application of factors of safety.
• Manufacturing background preferred; must understand tolerances in manufacturing.
• Must be able to produce drawings for machining, welding, fabrication, and assembly in accordance with ISO and ANSI standards.
• Maintain revision information and documentation.
• Ability to design columns and beams under compression and tension for aircraft towing equipment and design equipment for precise failure (safety shearing).
• Ability to perform FEA analysis of equipment, including understanding and documenting how equipment fails.
• Reliability engineering experience, including designing equipment to withstand harsh environments.
• Basic knowledge of high-pressure oxygen systems.
• Basic knowledge of hydraulics and pumps.
• Basic knowledge of engines and generators.
• Basic knowledge of electrical diagrams and documentation.
