Job description

CAD Designer — Mechanical / Product Design (Automotive)
What's waiting for you here is rare — direct R&D impact, real engineering ownership, and a clear path to permanent employment at a company that builds products recognized worldwide. This isn't a support desk or a drafting role where you execute someone else's vision. This is a seat in an active North American R&D department where you'll design components, build 3D models, manage product lifecycle data, and contribute to next-generation product development from concept to release. If you want to do real engineering work, work alongside people who take quality seriously, and be trusted to drive solutions independently — keep reading.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
Most CAD roles on the market have you buried in revisions, waiting for direction, and working in silos. This one is different. You'll report directly to the CAD Manager inside a focused R&D team — meaning you're close to the decisions, not far from them. You'll contribute to Customer Engineering Specification compliance, PLM database ownership, and lab expansion projects including designing new tools and fixtures. That's a breadth of ownership that most CAD roles don't offer. The temp-to-hire structure also means the company is invested in finding the right long-term fit — not just filling a seat.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Designing innovative components and mechanical assemblies to meet technical, cost, quality, and timing objectives
  • Generating 3D models and 2D engineering prints and managing their storage in the PLM database
  • Supporting compliance with Customer Engineering Specifications including DVP&R planning and analysis
  • Maintaining the Bill of Materials and supporting data set releases
  • Managing PLM database structure and article status in line with Product Life Cycle guidelines
  • Supporting lab expansion through the concept and design of new equipment, tools, and fixtures
  • Collaborating across all levels of the organization to solve problems and drive solutions proactively

What We're Looking For
  • BS in Computer Graphics Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Hands-on experience with CATIA V5 — this is required, either through professional work or formal education.
  • Minimum three years of CAD design experience, ideally within the automotive industry.
  • Familiarity with IATF quality standards and automotive product development processes.
  • Experience with PLM tools such as Oracle PLM or Teamcenter SLM.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office in a Windows environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments independently in a fast-moving, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, solutions-first mindset

Compensation:
Compensation ranges from approximately $45,000 to $95,000 depending on experience and is negotiable. This is a temp-to-hire position with a clear path to permanent, full-time employment.
Work Model: Onsite
Fishers, Indiana (Indianapolis area)
