PRODUCT DESIGN ENGINEER
Location: Houston, Westplain Campus
Work Environment: On-site Monday - Friday
Work Schedule/Hours: Normal Business Hours
Pay Range: The base pay range for this position is $90,000 - 105,000+ USD. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.
As Product Design Engineer, you will be responsible for projects of varying size and complexity. You will leverage state-of-the-art simulation tools, such as CFD and CAD, as well as perform hands-on testing and validation to help solve technically challenging problems (i.e., root cause analysis). You will work closely with other disciplines, from Product Management to Engineering Design, Manufacturing, and Sales, to improve current designs and identify solutions needed to meet new global market trends.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate work with an international team of designers, mechanical and simulation engineers in our Bangalore Design Center.
  • Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers, and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability.
  • Design and develop new products utilizing advanced modeling tools and engineering principles.
  • Support VAVE activities for existing product lines and use information as the basis for NPD.
  • Utilize CAD (Computer-Aided Design) or CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.
  • Use simulation methods (e.g., FEA, CFD) for accurate performance predictions and reduced development cycles.
  • Interface with Product Managers, Applications Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Purchasing, and other functions during all phases of product development.
  • Apply engineering analysis to make data-driven design decisions.
  • Generate design manuals for new products and support the creation of technical documentation.
  • Develop and review design prototypes, perform tests, and finalize product design to facilitate production.
  • Analyze new components, materials, and technologies to evaluate functionality for all new product development.
  • Prepare comprehensive project plans with technical objectives and detailed cost estimates.
  • Analyze product costs and prepare schedule plans for effective implementation of programs.
  • Prepare and approve product design and test plans, review designs, and recommend adequate changes to the approved models before the actual rollout of new products.
  • Approve prototypes of new designs, conduct performance analysis of prototypes, and ensure the assembly of products follows the company's quality parameters.
  • Comply with Design Control and NPD Stage-Gate processes while designing prototypes and products.
  • Track the progress of assigned projects to report to major stakeholders.
  • Perform other product development-related duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Strong background in design, in theory, and practical application required.
  • Knowledge of ASME B16.34, API 6D, and industry standards for the industry.
  • Proven ability to interact with all levels of employees from senior managers down.
  • Outstanding relationship building skills with the ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, at every level, strong listening skills.
  • Ability to be resourceful, think creatively and analytically, problem-solve, experiment, and adapt, and make bold decisions and recommendations.
  • Determine, suggest, and implement technically feasible and economically viable alternatives for the current product offering and/or new product.
  • Analyze and evaluate how to improve a system and/or equipment's sustainability under continued operation, maintenance, and unexpected change.
  • Develop design changes to resolve operational issues, introduce new materials and revise product, process, and test specifications to enhance product quality, design integrity, reliability and manufacturability.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and thrive under pressure.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize competing tasks and projects; strong organizational skills.
  • Must be a team player who can also work independently.
  • Proven track record of meeting commitments with the highest level of standards, ethics, and integrity.
  • Energetic with a clear sense of urgency and direction; able to inspire and invigorate associates at all levels; promote concepts effectively.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • 3-5 years of design experience or related experience in product design.
  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. An advanced Mechanical Engineering degree is desired.
  • Experience with CAD.
  • Product support and sustaining.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience designing valves.

Preferred but not required:
  • Knowledge of welding processes.
  • ASME certification.
  • Pressure vessel experience.
  • Failure analysis - root cause, including system analysis.
  • Metallurgy and/or welding experience.
  • Product experience - (Power Generation / Pipeline products / Refinery).
  • Experience with ANSYS Mechanical.
