Job description

As an Advanced Chemical Engineer - Dynamic Simulations at Honeywell LNG, you will play a crucial role in Honeywell Process Technology supporting the LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Process Engineering team. This position will be reporting to our Senior Chemical Engineering Manager based in Allentown, Pennsylvania on a hybrid schedule.  

In this role, you will impact the company's growth and competitiveness by driving technical excellence, project leadership, process optimization, collaboration, safety, and innovation in LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Process Technology, ultimately enhancing the quality of Honeywell LNG's offerings. A major component of this role will be using dynamic simulation for developing and deploying high-fidelity dynamic simulation models to support advanced control strategies, operator training systems, and digital twin initiatives for LNG facilities. This role bridges process engineering and automation, enabling safer, more efficient LNG plant operations through simulation-driven insights.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply engineering expertise to design and implement world-class natural gas liquefaction processes and equipment.
  • Perform advanced process cycle simulations for natural gas liquefaction and related systems.
  • Complete detailed thermal design of proprietary heat transfer equipment (coil wound heat exchanger) manufactured by Honeywell LNG.
  • Conduct relief and depressuring scenario analyses for proprietary equipment using established tools and methodologies.
  • Support plant operations through startup, performance testing, troubleshooting, control scheme implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams-including commercial, project management, mechanical design, manufacturing, machinery, R&D, and start-up-to ensure seamless project execution, and drive product development and improvement.
  • Participate in P&ID reviews and HAZOPs at contractor offices to ensure safety, operability and design integrity.
  • Develop, configure, and validate dynamic simulation models using UniSim Design (steady-state and dynamics).
  • Perform dynamic studies including startup, shutdown, and cooldown sequences, compressor trip scenarios, 
  • Emergency shutdown (ESD) and blowdown analysis
  • Develop and validate control narratives, cause & effect matrices, and alarm management strategies
  • Troubleshoot plant operational issues using simulation and digital twin environments
  • Domestic and international travel to clients' offices, contractors, and plant sites expected about 10-15 percent of the time.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of experience in chemical engineering (preferably LNG, gas processing, or refining).
  • 3+ years of experience with dynamic process simulation software (UNISIM, gPROMS).
  • Demonstrated expertise in chemical engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience in process design and start-up on large capital projects 
  • Solid understanding of LNG thermodynamics and cryogenic processes, Process control and instrumentation, and Compressor dynamics and anti-surge control 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
