Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY
The Process Engineer will Drive continuous improvement of manufacturing and operational processes to increase safety, quality, throughput, and cost efficiency. Partner with production, quality, maintenance, and EHS to analyze end to end workflows, identify bottlenecks, and implement process solutions using Lean, Six Sigma, and statistical methods. Develop and optimize standard operating procedures, process control plans, and KPIs; lead trials, validations, and root-cause investigations to sustain performance.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Helps direct the efforts of process technicians through good managerial skills and establishes goals in order to produce positive results.
  • Manages Process Reliability:
    • Works closely with customers to define product requirements and translates them into controllable process parameters.
    • Determines company's process capabilities to consistently run to target and meet the customer's product requirements.
    • Defines and reports opportunities for process reliability improvement.
  • Works closely with the Process Engineering Manager, Operations Manager, Maintenance Manager, and manufacturing teams to recommend and justify needed equipment upgrades or modifications.
  • Ability to identify and lead process improvement projects
  • Ability to lead meetings, Kaizen events, and other actions as they relate to the Engineering Department
  • Reviews, provides input, and / or approves process procedures
  • Specification review procedures:
    • Coordinates production order instructions with Production Scheduler for new or existing products as a result of a new specification or change to existing specification.
    • Monitors Schedule for reliability.
  • Works with Operations Manager to train production team members in the following areas:
    • Pareto analysis of downtime causes with the objective of improving equipment utilization.
    • Process capability studies to optimize specific product processes by product and by line.
    • Control chart maintenance and analysis to reduce key property variation through assignable cause identification and corrective action.

Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • BS in Engineering field.
  • 3 years of prior relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Previous supervision and project management experience preferred.
  • Understanding of chemical properties within the plastic industry preferred.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt preferred.

COMPETENCIES
  • Language Skills:
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, process, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write technical reports and routine correspondence.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups.
  • Mathematical Skills:
    • Ability to calculate figures associated with the process department.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must understand the basic fundamentals of lamination machinery and the process behind the mechanics. Must be familiar with the use of office equipment, such as a computer, calculator, telephone, copier and fax machine.
  • Must be self-directed and driven in a complex environment filled with change.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work is performed in an office and manufacturing environment with frequent contact with customers.

EFFORT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Requires prolonged sitting and frequent bending, stooping and stretching; manual dexterity; the ability to distinguish letters; occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds.
