JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a Water Treatment Engineer with strong laboratory and applied engineering experience to support the development, design, and implementation of industrial water and wastewater treatment systems. This role is ideal for an engineer who has hands-on experience with water quality testing, treatability studies, and pilot-scale systems, and who is interested in expanding into applications engineering, process design, and client-facing technical work.

The successful candidate will help translate bench-scale and pilot data into full-scale treatment solutions, working closely with project engineers, vendors, and clients to design reliable treatment systems for complex industrial water streams.

Essential duties include:

Water Treatment Process Development

  • Assist in designing and executing bench-scale and pilot-scale water or wastewater treatment studies.
  • Evaluate treatment performance and develop data-driven recommendations for full-scale systems.
  • Analyze water chemistry and interpret laboratory results to optimize treatment processes.
  • Develop and validate treatment strategies for challenging industrial water streams.

Applications Engineering & Process Design

  • Support process design and equipment selection for water and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Translate laboratory and pilot testing results into process design criteria, sizing parameters, and operating conditions.
  • Prepare process flow diagrams (PFDs), equipment specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Work with equipment vendors to evaluate technologies and integrate treatment processes.

Proposal Development & Technical Support

  • Prepare technical proposals for laboratory testing, treatability studies, and pilot programs.
  • Contribute technical expertise to larger client proposals, including scope development, technical approach, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist in defining testing programs needed to evaluate treatment feasibility and optimize system performance.
  • Support business development teams by helping communicate treatment approaches and engineering solutions.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide technical leadership on treatability programs and pilot testing initiatives.
  • Mentor junior staff in laboratory methods, data interpretation, and technical documentation.
  • Support cross-functional engineering teams during feasibility studies, preliminary engineering, and detailed design.

Client & Project Support

  • Participate in technical discussions with clients regarding treatment challenges and solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering memoranda, and presentations summarizing study results and design recommendations.
  • Assist with troubleshooting of operating treatment systems when required.

The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Specific skills and experience are as follows:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • 5–15 years of experience in water or wastewater treatment
  • Experience with water quality testing and laboratory analysis
  • Experience performing or interpreting treatability studies or pilot-scale testing
