Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Process Development Leader is a member of the Process Innovation team within the Enterprise R&D organization and will be accountable for leading the Process Development team in delivering scalable, high value solutions that support Owens Corning's Leading Technology and Winning Cost Position advantages. This leader will be responsible for identifying, developing, industrializing, and deploying process innovations that deliver safe, sustainable, and capital efficient solutions. The successful candidate will not only lead and develop a high performing technical team but will also effectively collaborate with stakeholders in Operations, Science and Technology, Sourcing, Capital Delivery, Intellectual Property, and Product Stewardship. This role requires both innovation and project management capabilities and experience with Lean Startup and use of Minimum Viable Experiments (MVEs) to quickly evaluate technical viability is preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate a Commitment to Safety

  • Conduct risk and safety assessments on new processes and equipment.

Lead and Develop High Performing Teams

Lead Process Innovation Projects from Concept Through Implementation
  • Identify, develop, industrialize, and deploy novel process innovations in a safe, sustainable, and capital efficient way.
  • Utilizes Minimum Viable Experiment (MVE) and lean startup principles to enable faster development of innovative concepts while proving value hypotheses.
  • Use engineering fundamentals and experimental designs to quickly create prototypes and scale-up solution. Lead and execute trials that validate performance and mitigate risks.
  • Practice Results-Driven Project Management (RPM) for effective execution and clear communication including: alignment of team roles, timelines, resources, and results.
  • Utilize technical literature, conferences, and subject matter experts to remain abreast of industry trends in manufacturing process technology. Leverage outside resources to accelerate learnings and expand capabilities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in scientific or engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering or science-related industry position.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective technical project management and people leadership.
  • Willingness to travel as needed (10-25%) to support project work.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduate degree in scientific or engineering field.
  • Demonstrated track record of process development, from concept to implementation, within large cross-functional organizations in R&D and/or manufacturing environments.
  • 3+ years of experience leading and developing technical teams.
  • Experience with lean startup methodology or minimum viable experiments (MVEs).
  • Technical knowledge and/or experience with Owens Corning products, processes, applications, and customers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Balance of theoretical and practical experience with passion for manufacturing technology.
  • Ability to interface with plant personnel and execute projects in the manufacturing environment.
  • Project management - effective management of projects including but not limited to scope, schedule, cost, risk, resource, and issue management.
  • Technical leadership - previous execution of small to large scale projects including cross-functional teams.
  • People leadership - demonstrated ability to effectively lead and develop technical teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-directed and self-motivated with the ability work independently and own delivery of project outcomes.
  • Team oriented with desire to collaborate and drive results across functional and discipline boundaries in a dynamic environment.
