Job description

We are looking for a specialist who understands how to re-imagine business processes through an AI lens - not just automate existing workflows but fundamentally rethink how AI can be infused into domains like Loss Mitigation, Sales & Distribution, and Employee Experience. This role will also play a key part in establishing AI governance to prevent fragmentation across our customer's growing portfolio of AI initiatives. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Assess current AI initiatives across Sallie Mae teams and map the fragmentation and governance risk landscape 
  • Design a centralized AI governance framework with control points for visibility, manageability, and policy enforcement 
  • Lead the deployment of alongside MuleSoft Agent Fabric as a comparative proof point on the current AI squad 
  • Identify AI infusion opportunities across Loss Mitigation (propensity scoring, predictive risk, shadow testing) and Sales & Distribution domains 
  • Design the AI pipeline architecture for nightly scoring jobs, digital twin models, and A/B testing in production 
  • Define the roadmap for marketing content automation and AI for Employee Experience (Vendor Management) use cases 
  • Provide recommendations on build-vs.-buy decisions for AI tooling and platforms 
  • Collaborate with data architect to ensure AI models are grounded in a well-structured data foundation 

Must-have skills 

  • 8+ years in AI/ML strategy, architecture, or implementation roles 
  • Demonstrated experience designing AI governance and oversight frameworks 
  • Strong understanding of LLM-based agent orchestration and workflow automation 
  • Experience integrating AI/ML into business process redesign (not just model building) 
  • Hands-on familiarity with AI platforms, APIs, and orchestration tooling 
  • Ability to communicate AI concepts to non-technical business stakeholders 

Nice to have 

  • Experience with, MuleSoft, or Kong-based AI gateway patterns 
  • Background in financial services AI use cases (credit scoring, loss mitigation) 
  • Familiarity with digital twin modelling and shadow production testing 
  • Prior experience establishing AI governance at a large financial institution 
  • Knowledge of propensity modelling and customer behaviour prediction 

 
 Compensation, Benefits and Duration

Minimum Compensation: USD 80,000
Maximum Compensation: USD 280,000
Compensation is based on actual experience and qualifications of the candidate. The above is a reasonable and a good faith estimate for the role.
